Two men have been reported missing after a canoe carrying six passengers overturned on the Offin River near Achiase in the Atwima Mponua District.
Daniel Adu, a Unit Committee member, said the incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, when the canoe’s paddler, believed to be inexperienced, lost control.
“All six people ended up in the water. Four were rescued, but the search is still ongoing for the other two, both adult men,” he told Accra-based Asaase News.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) visited the scene but paused the rescue operation until Friday, September 26. Traditional leaders also performed rituals at the riverbank, though Adu noted their efforts had not produced any results.
He recalled a similar incident in 2021 along the same stretch of the river, where four people drowned—three bodies were retrieved, while the fourth was never found.
