The Bekwai Circuit Court has handed lengthy prison sentences to two men for their involvement in an armed robbery attack on the Brent Energy Filling Station at New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region in 2024.
The convicts, Kwadwo Baffour, 38, a driver, and Kwame Affisah, also known as “Abedinago,” 36, were found guilty on two counts of robbery under Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The judgment was delivered on June 15, 2026.
Court documents and prosecution evidence showed that the two, armed with pump-action guns, stormed the filling station in the early hours of August 17, 2024, attacking fuel attendants on duty.
They are said to have made away with GH¢2,500 in cash and personal items valued at about GH¢200,000 during the operation.
Presiding Judge Isaac Appiatu sentenced Baffour to 20 years’ imprisonment on each count, while Affisah received 30 years on each count.
The court noted that Affisah was already serving a seven-year sentence at the Kumasi Central Prison for an unrelated offence at the time of this conviction.
Both sentences are to run concurrently, meaning the men will serve them at the Kumasi Central Prison.
