The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the disruption of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Election at Bidieso in Obuasi.
According to the police, a reinforcement team was quickly deployed to the scene following reports of the disturbance, leading to the arrest of the suspects. An axe and a cutlass were also retrieved during the operation.
The suspects were later arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, specifically rioting with weapons, and rioting with weapons.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two justified sureties.
The court has adjourned the case to August 10, 2026, as police continue investigations and efforts to arrest other persons suspected to have taken part in the disturbance.
