We all have a love-hate relationship with our self-esteem and confidence. Some days you wake up feeling that you can conquer the world and other days are more like ‘Duniya mein aaye hain, toh jeena hee padega’. From the awkward teenage years to the early 20s where one finally tastes a slice of adulthood, it is understandable that learning to love yourself, just the way you are, comes with growing up

When do you feel the most confident about yourself

According to a report published in Psychological Bulletin, there is a particular age group where your confidence level is the highest. To conduct the research, 191 studies were assessed to understand how self-confidence changes throughout a lifetime.

It was found that while there is a natural rise and fall in self-esteem levels, it usually keeps increasing throughout life. Some of the interesting findings of the research include:

1. Self-esteem stops increasing between 11 to 15 years.

2. It rapidly climbs up during the young adult phase.

3. It does hit a plateau during the teenage years but does not decrease.

Brace yourself for a shock. The research further claimed that self-confidence levels hit the peak when a person is 60-year-old and stays the same till 70. It may taper off a bit after hitting the 70s but a lot of individuals seemed to be really confident even in their 90s.

What does this mean

The greatest takeaway of this research is that it re-emphasizes the notion that the ‘best is yet to come’. While a lot of people may believe that 20s might be the age when people feel the most confident, it is reassuring and exciting to know that our self-confidence levels keep rising throughout life.

The bottom line

Peaking of confidence at the age of 60 may have a lot to do with the fact that you wholly embrace yourself and do not get bothered with other’s opinions anymore. So, no matter what your age is, it is definitely heartwarming to know that you will probably feel the best about yourself as you enter the 60s.
