Tema Police intercept suspected Indian hemp shipment on Tema–Ada road, one arrested

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested one suspect after intercepting a large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp during an operation along the Tema-Ada road.

The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was apprehended on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit.

According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters, the suspect, who was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck, failed to stop when signaled by police officers and attempted to evade arrest.

Police said the vehicle was pursued and eventually intercepted at Bondase, where the arrest was made.

“He was subsequently pursued and apprehended at Bondase. A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape.”

According to preliminary investigations, the suspected narcotic substance was loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the vehicle and the suspected narcotic exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the region.

The Command also called on members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
