Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has called on the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to sack and revoke certificates of teachers who sexually abuse students.
He also suggested that such teachers be jailed, banned from government employment and also made to compensate their victims.

These sanctions, he said, if introduced by the MoE and the GES, will help to deal with the current canker in the teaching profession and also serve as a deterrent to others.
Speaking in an interaction with Adehye FM’s Elisha Adarkwahat the inauguration of a six-unit classroom block which he built at Kronum Kwapra in the Suame constituency, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu attributed the rise in sexual abuse and harassment of students by some teachers and headmasters to the ineffectiveness of the inspectorate division of the GES.
He, therefore, called for the inspectorate division to be proactive to monitor teachers and students at all times.

  1. I agree with him but l also suggest that politicians who also date students should be castrated. Politicians who go to our school campuses in the night to pick girls who are young enough to be their grand children should be arrested and be castrated.

  2. What a world of news, Minsters are, farmers are, police are, almost everyone is dating errr.. Don’t understand why teachers are discriminated

  3. It’s very true but if I may ask, what do we do to members of parliament who follow our innocent university students ?
Not to talk about the police who demand bribe.

  4. The call is laudable but he shouldn’t forget that teachers aren’t angels for all of them to overcome the temptations the students used to mount on the teachers. If he speak of monitoring then the govt must start resourcing the inspectorates division of the ges in particular and for that matter the the entire ges district directorates for them to deliver The guidance and counselling division of ges must be intensified to work on the students. Finally, parents must be up and doing to cater for the needs of their girl children for them not to be looking elsewhere for assistance. The warning must go beyond teachers. The MPs and others sector workers are equally guilty of the offence.

  5. Comment:the GES posts teachers to remote areas and distances without even thinking where their spouses or fiancé/fiancée may be.
The same students taught by these teachers are known as sex machines in the communities where they are…I’m not in support of teachers who do this but what if this student is of age and was not forced into the act but through mutual agreement?
My advice…TO SOLVE THIS MENACE, GES MUST LISTEN TO TEACHERS!
How could my fiancée be on the Togo border whiles I’m also on the Côte border of the country?
In this case, if the woman cheats on the man, he can’t even blame her but hey, the man also isn’t a piece of stick!
teachers have feelings, slow them some piece of mind, pls…teacher, u also pleaaaase….behave
