Abdul Razak Mohammed, a 49-year-old grave digger at Awudome Cemetery, reportedly sold the skull to Alex Frimpong for GH₵600, allegedly to help Frimpong secure more contracts in his masonry work.

Frimpong, 24, also received a sentence of five years in prison. Both Mohammed and Frimpong pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful use of human parts.

The court convicted them based on their guilty pleas and handed down the respective sentences.

Nana Attah, a fetish priest believed to have ordered the skull, pleaded not guilty after his arrest and arraignment.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, explained that Frimpong resides in Pokuase while Mohammed works as a grave digger at Awudome Cemetery.

A few months ago, Frimpong became friends with Nana Attah on Facebook, where Attah introduced himself as a fetish priest.

Frimpong, struggling with a lack of contracts in his masonry work, sought spiritual help from Attah.

According to the prosecution, during a visit to Attah’s shrine in Winneba, Frimpong was told that a human skull was needed for rituals to improve his fortune.

On October 25, 2024, at around 10:30 p.m., Frimpong met with Mohammed at Awudome Cemetery to arrange the acquisition of a human skull.

Mohammed agreed to provide the skull in exchange for GH₵600, with the payment to be made via mobile money, and the skull handed over to Frimpong.

Later that afternoon, at around 2:00 p.m., a police patrol team, Bravo Checker 3, led by General Lance Corporal Eric Dedzo, stopped Frimpong as he was riding an unregistered motorcycle near Odorgonno Secondary School.

During a search, a human skull wrapped in a black plastic bag was found in Frimpong’s backpack, leading to his arrest.

Frimpong later implicated Mohammed as his supplier, and Mohammed was subsequently arrested.

The human skull was preserved at the police mortuary for further investigation.

As the investigation progressed, police arrested Nana Attah, who has since been charged and arraigned in court.

The General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Billy Sunday, told the media in an interview that he rented the church premises from a landlord after it had been used by another church.

“A few months ago, I arrived at Kasoa and rented the property from a landlord who told me the place was initially being occupied by another pastor. Ever since I rented the place, all my church members vanished at once and I could not understand what the situation was, so I started praying about it,” he narrated.

According to Pastor Dr. Billy Sunday, he had a vision that led him to dig the church altar.

“The old pastor had already constructed a concrete pulpit so we decided to dismantle it. As we were digging, we saw the skull of a child and the head of a cat. We prayed and exhumed the skull.”

The pastor indicated that what they saw shocked the entire leadership of the church.

Pastor Sunday is attributing the burial of the skull at the altar to the dwindling membership of his church.

According to him, he, together with his leaders, later prayed over the exhumed skulls and burnt them.

“These are spiritual matters, the skull and cat head were evil, more so, there was life in them so we could not wait but to burn them. But I have informed the police about the issue and investigations have begun,” he added.

Pastor Billy Sunday adds that he is currently assisting the police to apprehend the pastor whom he suspects to have engaged in the act

He advised occultic people who are professing to be men of God to desist from hiding behind the Bible.

“There are so many pastors in Ghana who are into occultism and it is not helping the work of God. We must come together as a country and expose all of them,” he concluded.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, an informant disclosed the suspects were arrested at Asamansudo while transporting the skulls from Asanda, a farming community at Ellembelle on Thursday afternoon.

The two suspects, identified as Isaac Kweku Agyapong aged 20 and Shamusu Mohammed, 18, according to information gathered are residents of Ankobra in the Ellembelle district and Aboadze in the Shama district of the Western region.

The situation is said to have attracted many who have thronged the police station to catch a glimpse of the suspects.

The development comes in the wake of the apprehension in Takoradi over the abduction of people in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in recent times including the three girls who were kidnapped and killed by their abductors.

Named for its resemblance to a dragon’s mouth that opens and closes when lightly squeezed, this beautiful flower also has a dark side. When its petals wither away and fall off, they leave behind dried seedpods that look a lot like creepy tiny skulls.

One of the few plants to resemble something when alive and another thing entirely when dead, the snapdragon flower has inspired various legends ever since ancient times.

According to one story, women who eat the tiny skull-like seedpods will regain their lost youth and beauty, while another says that scattering them throughout the house will protect residents from curses, sorcery and other evil things.

In the Victorian age, due to its duplicitous appearance, the snapdragon flower was a symbol of deception, suspicion, and mystery, and legend had it that concealing a flower in someone’s clothing made them appear fascinating and gracious.

In the language of flowers, the snapdragon is said to represent both deception and graciousness.

But how does the beautiful snapdragon flower turn into a creepy skull? According to biochemist/blogger Johanna L. Roose, all comes down to the snapdragon’s flower structure and its bilateral symmetry.

“The skulls are really the seed pods of the plant after the flowers have been pollinated and the petals have withered away. Dissecting the flowers in their prime shows the ovary at the base of the bloom.

The pollen-containing stamens and the style emerge from the orifices in the ovary. These structures leave behind gaping holes that look like a mouth and eye sockets,” Roose explains.

That doesn’t sound very impressive, but looking at these dried snapdragon seedpods, it’s just amazing how much some of them actually look like small skulls.

If I didn’t know what they were beforehand I could swear skulls do actually grow on trees, or someone just photoshopped them onto some twigs. It just goes to show you how weird yet fascinating nature can be sometimes.

Looking at these creepy skulls, it’s easy to forget just how beautiful and vibrantly colored the snapdragon is when it’s alive.
