In a statement issued on Friday, May 8, the NPP described the comments as “vicious” and accused the NDC of remaining silent despite what it termed insults directed at a respected former head of state.

“This is not politics. This is desecration,” the party stated.

The opposition party praised former President Kufuor for his contribution to Ghana’s democratic and economic development during his time in office.

According to the statement, Mr. Kufuor helped stabilise the economy, strengthened democratic governance, and earned admiration both locally and internationally.

“President Kufuor rescued this nation from economic collapse, strengthened our democracy, and earned the admiration of Ghana and the world. He is not a partisan target; he is a father of this nation,” it added.

The NPP further argued that the silence of the NDC over the comments amounts to complicity, claiming Kevin Taylor has known ties to the governing party.

“When a known operative verbally assaults a former President and the leadership of the NDC watches in silence, their silence becomes an endorsement,” the statement noted.

The party is therefore demanding that President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC publicly condemn the comments and distance themselves from the political commentator’s remarks.

The NPP also called on Kevin Taylor to issue what it described as a full and unqualified public apology to former President Kufuor.

It stressed that political discourse must remain within acceptable limits, especially when it involves former national leaders.

“The NDC must decide whether it will stand with our shared cultural values or with the savagery of Kevin Taylor,” the statement added.

ORAL will soon take effect and NPP will feel the heat – Abass Nurudeen https://www.adomonline.com/oral-will-soon-take-effect-and-npp-will-feel-the-heat-abass-nurudeen/ Thu, 07 May 2026 19:14:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2659671 The Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund, Abass Nurudeen, has cautioned members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be measured in their comments suggesting that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative has failed.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Mr. Nurudeen said the anti-corruption initiative would soon begin yielding stronger results and warned that individuals implicated in ongoing investigations would “feel the heat.”

“The NPP people saying ORAL has failed should be careful what they are asking for. ORAL will soon take effect. It won’t fail,” he stated.

Mr. Nurudeen specifically criticised former Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, saying he was the least qualified person to comment on matters relating to accountability and corruption investigations.

“The last person that should be talking about these things is Godfred Dame because of things that happened during his time,” he said.

He referenced past allegations of witness tampering involving the former Attorney-General, arguing that such conduct would have attracted severe consequences in other jurisdictions.

“In any serious jurisdiction his licence would be taken from him,” he alleged.

Mr. Nurudeen also claimed that earlier comments made by Mr. Dame regarding the handling of politically exposed cases under the previous administration raise concerns about alleged interference within the judiciary.

According to him, the ORAL initiative is already making progress, noting that the Attorney-General is currently handling more than 200 cases, with about 15 already before the courts.

“So far the Attorney-General is handling more than 200 cases, 15 are in court, and money recovered is about GH¢600 million. ORAL is working,” he stated.

He stressed that corruption-related prosecutions must follow due legal processes and rejected suggestions that the country was becoming lawless.

“No one should create the impression we are in a banana republic. If you are caught, the process will deal with you legally,” he added.

NPP demands release of former NAFCO CEO and wife, alleges “state-sponsored bullying” https://www.adomonline.com/npp-demands-release-of-former-nafco-ceo-and-wife-alleges-state-sponsored-bullying/ Thu, 07 May 2026 06:57:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2659345 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the government and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of political harassment following the re-arrest of businessman Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife shortly after the Attorney-General withdrew charges against them.

In a statement signed by National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP described the development as “state-sponsored bullying and ruthless political intimidation.”

The party alleged that the couple’s lawyers have been denied access to their clients for more than 24 hours following the re-arrest.

“Consistent with EOCO’s perennial disrespect for constitutionally guaranteed rights and due process, lawyers of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife have been denied access to their clients after more than 24 hours of waiting,” the statement claimed.

The concerns follow the Attorney-General’s decision to discontinue what had been described as a major prosecution case, popularly known as “The Rumble in the Jungle.”

Despite the withdrawal of the charges, EOCO reportedly re-arrested the couple shortly afterwards, a move the opposition party says raises serious concerns about due process.

According to the NPP, the two had fully complied with their bail conditions since their initial arrest in June last year and therefore posed no flight risk to warrant further detention.

“They therefore pose no risk that justifies their detention overnight,” the statement added.

The party also cautioned against what it described as the misuse of state power, stressing that state institutions must operate within constitutional limits.

“The NDC government must remember that state institutions are temporary custodians of power, not owners of it,” Nana Boakye stated.

He further urged investigative bodies to act in a manner that strengthens public trust rather than undermining confidence in the justice system.

The NPP is therefore calling for the immediate release of Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, insisting that fairness and transparency must guide the judicial process.

“The Republic gains nothing when investigative bodies appear more interested in spectacle and psychological pressure than in transparent and lawful prosecution,” the statement added.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem: Aggrieved NPP members seek injunction against polling station election https://www.adomonline.com/tarkwa-nsuaem-aggrieved-npp-members-seek-injunction-against-polling-station-election/ Sat, 02 May 2026 09:45:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2657824 Some aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region have gone to court to stop the party’s planned polling station elections in the area.

The group is asking the High Court to place an interlocutory injunction on the ongoing processes, including the vetting of aspirants and all activities leading to the conduct of the elections.

The plaintiffs Sam Nathaniel Andoh, Samuel Kwaw Blay, Musah Abdulai, Charlotte Ghansah, Francis Ntsiful, Eric Bonney, Juliana Eshun, and Memunatu Abubakar Saddick want the Court to place an interlocutory injunction on the vetting of aspirants and the conduct of polling station elections in the Constituency.

In the motion on notice, the applicants are praying the Court to prevent the NPP in the Region; Francis Ndede Siah, the Western Regional NPP Chairman; Benjamin Assabill, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem NPP Constituency Chairman; Fuseini Amadu, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem NPP Constituency Secretary; and Anthony Aidoo, the NPP Western Regional Representative for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency or their assigns or representatives

“From vetting or purporting to vet or continue to vet any candidate or aspirant or any person [and]from conducting, or purporting to conduct or holding or purporting to hold New Patriotic Party Polling Station Elections in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, Western Region, or doing any activity or procedure or process relating to or emanating from the organization of New Patriotic Party Polling Station Elections in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region,” it read in part.

Their quest to put the elections on hold stems from their dissatisfaction with the processes being undertaken by the party, which they believe do not respect the party’s guidelines and are being manipulated to favour some particular persons.

The appeal comes as the party continues its vetting process for members seeking to occupy various constituency-level positions.

In Atiwa East, about 26 members were disqualified after it was established that they had supported an independent candidate in previous elections—an action deemed to be in violation of party regulations.

However, the affected individuals say they are remorseful and are pleading for forgiveness in the interest of unity and progress within the party.

One of the disqualified members, speaking on behalf of the group, appealed to Mahamudu Bawumia and the party’s national executives to consider their plea and allow them back into the party’s fold.

According to them, bringing all members on board will strengthen the party’s grassroots support and enhance its chances of securing victory in the 2028 elections.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Vetting Committee in the constituency, Perry Appiah, indicated that the vetting process has so far been smooth, with strong support from the Member of Parliament and local party executives.

He noted that the committee has not encountered major challenges in carrying out its mandate.

The development is ongoing efforts within the party to strike a balance between enforcing discipline and fostering reconciliation as it prepares for future political activities.

Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, he argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not demonstrated improvement despite eight years in opposition.

According to him, after spending eight years out of power, former President John Dramani Mahama should have gained valuable lessons on managing energy challenges.

“For eight years in opposition, he should have learned something, but he hasn’t,” he said.

Mr Glover further claimed that power outages have historically been associated with the NDC, insisting that the issue remains a recurring feature under the party.

He contrasted the current situation with what he described as relatively stable power supply during the tenure of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, noting that challenges during that period were minimal.

He maintained that the present difficulties highlight a lack of progress in addressing longstanding energy concerns.

Akwatia MP criticizes NPP over power outage commentary https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-mp-criticizes-npp-over-power-outage-commentary/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 15:15:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656994 The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (New Patriotic Party) over its commentary on the ongoing power outages.

Speaking on JoyNews’s AM Show, he expressed surprise at what he described as attempts by the party to politicise the situation.

According to him, based on the party’s record in government, the NPP should be the last to speak on issues relating to power supply.

“When you check the data, they are the last people who should be talking about this issue,” he said.

Mr Baidoo argued that the power challenges being experienced in places like Kumasi are not new, insisting that such issues existed during the NPP’s eight years in office.

He questioned what interventions were made during that period, especially given the strong electoral support the party received from the area.

He further maintained that if the problems had been resolved previously, the current administration would not have inherited them.

Mr Baidoo added that it is unrealistic to expect the present government to fix within a short period what he claims was not addressed over eight years.

Allegations of demoting MPs who supported Kennedy Agyapong are false and distractions – Former MP https://www.adomonline.com/allegations-of-demoting-mps-who-supported-kennedy-agyapong-are-false-and-distractions-former-mp/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 12:32:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656881 The former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey, has dismissed claims that MPs who supported Kennedy Agyapong in the New Patriotic Party (New Patriotic Party) primaries will be sidelined or demoted.

Speaking on Badwam TV on Adom TV, he described the allegations as false and an attempt to divert public attention.

According to him, suggestions that people from the camp of Mahamudu Bawumia intend to punish MPs who supported Kennedy Agyapong are baseless.

“It is never true. That is just a way of shifting attention,” he said.

Mr Nartey stressed that the party remains united and will support all its Members of Parliament, regardless of who they backed during the internal elections.

He explained that when the time comes for parliamentary primaries, all sitting MPs will be given the opportunity to contest, with the party rallying behind them.

He emphasized that the NPP’s focus is on building a strong party rather than promoting individual interests.

“We are building a party, not individuals,” he added.

“If you don’t want us in NPP, don’t come to us after primaries” – Tarkwa Nsuaem erupts over mass disqualifications https://www.adomonline.com/if-you-dont-want-us-in-npp-dont-come-to-us-after-primaries-tarkwa-nsuaem-erupts-over-mass-disqualifications/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 10:32:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656824 A major political storm is brewing within the New Patriotic Party (New Patriotic Party) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, as hundreds of aggrieved party members have issued a stark warning to the party’s national leadership: intervene immediately or risk a total breakdown of unity ahead of future elections.

The unrest follows the widespread disqualification of applicants seeking to contest as polling station executives during the ongoing vetting process. Affected members describe the exercise as deeply flawed, alleging that the reasons cited for their disqualification are arbitrary, unjustified, and designed to favour a single political interest within the constituency.

Among the grounds reportedly used to disqualify aspirants are claims of being seen dancing to music associated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (National Democratic Congress), operating businesses near NDC-branded posters, engaging in disagreements with fellow party members, or backing parliamentary hopefuls not aligned with individuals perceived to control the vetting process.

One frustrated party member recounted her ordeal, stating that although she had previously supported an independent candidate in the 2020 elections out of dissatisfaction, she fully rejoined and actively supported the party in 2024. She cited her role in mobilising members during a visit by Samira Bawumia to Tarkwa as evidence of her commitment. “How can you now turn around and say I am not a member of the party?” she questioned.

The situation at various polling centres has reportedly been tense, with incidents of heated confrontations, verbal exchanges, and even the invoking of curses and religious oaths during proceedings. Some aspirants have also alleged document tampering, claiming their submitted forms were altered and signatures manipulated to justify disqualification.

In a further twist, several individuals who purchased nomination forms say they have been denied the opportunity to undergo vetting altogether, with officials claiming their documents cannot be traced. Critics argue this raises serious concerns about transparency and fairness in the process.

The controversy has been compounded by allegations that the vetting process was not properly publicised, with invitations issued selectively rather than through open and transparent channels. Additionally, there are claims that the composition of vetting committees has been inconsistent, with some electoral area coordinators—who are not officially mandated—participating and allegedly influencing decisions on who gets disqualified.

Multiple petitions have reportedly been submitted to both regional and national party executives regarding the conduct and composition of the vetting committees. However, the aggrieved members say there has been a worrying lack of response and decisive intervention.

The discontent is further fueled by memories of the party’s recent electoral setback in the constituency, where the NPP lost the parliamentary seat for the first time since 1996, with a margin of nearly 16,000 votes. Many believe the current developments signal a failure to learn from past divisions and internal conflicts that contributed to that defeat.

Angry supporters warn that if the national leadership fails to act swiftly, they will either withdraw completely from party activities or mobilise support for independent candidates in future elections. “If you don’t want us in the party, then don’t come to us after primaries to preach unity,” one group declared.

Mr. Moses, a party member from the Agona Electoral Area, expressed deep frustration: “We have not learnt any lessons. We seem comfortable with defeat and not interested in rebuilding the party.”

Meanwhile, internal party communication platforms have been flooded with voice notes and messages expressing outrage and demanding urgent intervention to prevent what many describe as the monopolisation of the party’s structures by a single individual or faction.

As tensions continue to escalate, political observers say the situation in Tarkwa-Nsuaem poses a serious test for the NPP’s national leadership, with the potential to either restore confidence through swift action or deepen divisions that could have lasting electoral consequences.

NPP handed over stable power sector to NDC gov’t – Sammi Awuku https://www.adomonline.com/npp-handed-over-stable-power-sector-to-ndc-govt-sammi-awuku/ Tue, 28 Apr 2026 13:57:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656496 Member of Parliament for Akuapim North, Sammi Awuku, has stated that Ghana was not experiencing power outages at the time the previous administration handed over power.

Speaking on UTV in Accra, he maintained that the NPP left behind a stable power sector, despite occasional challenges during their time in office.

According to him, while there were instances of power interruptions over the years, the government consistently focused on resolving them rather than making excuses.

“I’m not saying there were no outages in the eight years, but we always found solutions instead of excuses,” he said.

Mr Awuku expressed concern over the current power situation, noting that it is having serious effects on livelihoods and education.

He explained that businesses, especially small-scale ones, are being negatively impacted, while students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination are also facing challenges due to unreliable electricity supply.

He added that parents are increasingly worried as their children struggle to study in the absence of stable power, even as examinations approach.

Mr Awuku stressed that the issue should not be politicised, urging government to treat the situation with urgency due to its implications for the future of young people.

Government owes fuel suppliers about $200m – MP alleges https://www.adomonline.com/government-owes-fuel-suppliers-about-200m-mp-alleges/ Tue, 28 Apr 2026 10:55:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656409 The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has alleged that government owes fuel suppliers nearly $200 million.

Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, he said the claim is based on intelligence his side has gathered regarding the current state of the energy sector.

According to him, the outstanding debt to fuel suppliers is a key issue that requires urgent attention, as it has implications for the stability of power supply in the country.

“We have picked intelligence that this government owes fuel suppliers close to $200 million,” he stated.

Mr Adomako-Mensah further indicated that concerns over the debt are among the reasons his side has insisted on accountability regarding financial measures introduced in the energy sector.

He referenced a bill presented to Parliament by the National Democratic Congress, which he said required a report by March 31 on the implementation of a one-cedi levy on fuel.

He maintained that addressing the financial obligations within the energy sector is critical to resolving ongoing challenges.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV Ghana, he claimed the threats are linked to his role in promoting and pushing the Base Movement.

“I’ve been receiving death threats over the Base Movement from NPP members,” he alleged.

According to him, he was once a financier of the party but is no longer associated with it.

“I’m no longer with the NPP, and I won’t comment on them,” he said.

He stated that due to the alleged threats, he has decided not to make further comments on issues concerning the NPP.

Dr. Oti Bonsu added that the situation has made it difficult for him to openly engage in political discussions involving the party.

Speaking on UTV Ghana, he dismissed claims that actor Agya Koo founded the movement.

According to him, the idea to form the group stemmed from his personal admiration for Kennedy Agyapong’s leadership style, ideas, and mindset, which he believes resonate with many Ghanaians.

He explained that he initially engaged members of Kennedy Agyapong’s fundraising team with the idea of creating a support base for him.

Dr. Oti Bonsu said the proposal was accepted, and discussions were held in Cape Coast, where Kennedy Agyapong also endorsed the initiative and informed his various support groups about it.

He noted that at the time, it was only referred to as a “base” and had not yet evolved into a full movement.

He added that actor Agya Koo later reached out with his team and joined the group after its formation.

“I founded The Base Movement out of admiration for Kennedy Agyapong—Agya Koo only joined later; he is not the founder,” he said.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem: NPP executives boycott election committee inauguration; petition party https://www.adomonline.com/tarkwa-nsuaem-npp-executives-boycott-election-committee-inauguration-petition-party/ Fri, 24 Apr 2026 07:35:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655288 There is growing confusion within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region over the elections committee.

Some constituency executives, as a result, boycotted the inauguration of the party’s polling station elections committee over alleged breaches of the party’s guidelines for the formation of such committees.

They contend that the breaches were constitutional and a deliberate attempt to stampede the process in favour of some preferred persons within the constituency.

Speaking to the media, Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng explained that the decision to ignore some former constituency executives, assemblymen associated with the party, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES), and polling station executives, but rather fill the committees with some young polling station executives aligned to certain individuals and presented as opinion leaders, is disingenuous and an act that seeks to undermine the process and create chaos.

He cited an example of places like Cyanide and Kwabedu electoral areas. “You appoint staff of Mireku Duker as election committee members and christen them opinion leaders, knowing very well that the same people created chaos even during the polling station registration, is a bad decision,” he said.

The NPP executive further alleged that the move is deliberately intended to disqualify persons who are not openly supportive of certain individuals, adding that it will only create confusion in an exercise that seeks to build the party.

The dissatisfied members have now petitioned the party at the national level to dissolve the committees and have them properly reconstituted.

The petition, signed by Augustine Quaicoe, the Constituency Organiser; Frank Gyemfi, Second Vice Chairman; and Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng, the Financial Secretary, explained that the setting up of the committees did not follow the NPP’s guidelines. It added that their decision to petition the party’s national leadership follows the failure to resolve the issue at the constituency and regional levels.

Mr Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng called on the national executives of the NPP not to see the petition as an expression of minority dissent but a principled call for fidelity to party rules. “The Party must not be allowed to collapse on the altar of extreme autocracy disguised as expediency or majority will,” he cautioned.

Meanwhile, the petition noted that:

“Contrary to the express provisions of the Party’s guidelines, the Constituency Secretary, Mr Fuseni Amadu, acting in concert with certain associates, unilaterally selected individuals who do not fall within the categories envisaged by the regulations…

No meeting of the Constituency Executive Committee was convened to deliberate upon or approve the selection of the Electoral Area Elections Committee members.

Persons who are merely aligned to particular interests at the polling station level were improperly designated as ‘opinion leaders’ and presented as members of the Committee, thereby circumventing the intent and letter of the guidelines.

At the inauguration of the Committee, the Regional Secretary, Mr Henry Amankwa Afrifa, openly admitted that he exerted pressure on the Constituency Secretary and the Regional representative to hastily submit names due to time constraints, after failing to comply with the guidelines to submit the names at least four days before the opening of nominations, hence resulting in the abandonment of due process.

Furthermore, the names presented at the inauguration differed from previously submitted ones, and this was done without any consultation or approval from the appropriate party organs.

The Constituency Organiser formally raised concerns with both constituency and regional leadership; however, no lawful or satisfactory resolution was provided.”

For these reasons, the petitioners want the party to declare the committees null and void and reconstitute them.

Below is the petition

Cc: Director of Legal

Cc : The National Chairman

DATE: 23rd April, 2026

SUBJECT: FORMAL PETITION FOR NULLIFICATION AND RECONSTITUTION OF ELECTORAL AREA ELECTIONS COMMITTEE – TARKWA-NSUAEM CONSTITUENCY

1. INTRODUCTION

We, the undersigned, being officers and committed members of the Party in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, respectfully petition your high office for urgent intervention in relation to grave procedural irregularities and breaches of the Party’s Rules and Regulations governing the constitution of Electoral Area Elections Committees.

This petition has become necessary following repeated but unsuccessful efforts to have these concerns and many infractions addressed at both the constituency and regional levels.

2. LEGAL AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

We respectfully draw your attention to the Rules and Regulations for Polling station Elections Committee

The Polling Station Elections shall be conducted by three (3)member Polling Station Elections Committees across the Constituency within the scheduled dates.

. The Polling Station Elections Committees for each Constituency shall be appointed by the Constituency Executive Committee and

the Regional Steering Committee provided they are registered Party Members in the Constituency where they are to conduct theelections.

          •         The Constituency Executive Committee shall furnish the Regional

Steering Committee and the National Secretariat with the list of the Polling Station Election Committees at least one (1) week before the opening of nominations for the Polling Election

These provisions are mandatory and are designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and institutional accountability.

3. STATEMENT OF FACTS

3.1 Contrary to the express provisions of the Party’s guidelines, the Constituency Secretary, Mr. Fuseni Amadu, acting in concert with certain associates, unilaterally selected individuals who do not fall within the categories envisaged by the regulations.

3.2 No meeting of the Constituency Executive Committee was convened to deliberate upon or approve the selection of the Electoral Area Elections Committee members.

3.3 Persons who are merely aligned to particular interests at the polling station level were improperly designated as “opinion leaders” and presented as members of the Committee, thereby circumventing the intent and letter of the guidelines.

3.4 At the inauguration of the Committee, the Regional Secretary, Mr. Henry Amankwa Afrifa, openly admitted that he exerted pressure on the Constituency Secretary and the Regional representative to hastily submit names due to time constraints, after failing to comply with the guidelines to submit the names at least 4 days before opening of nomination hence resulting in the abandonment of due process.

3.5 Furthermore, names presented at the inauguration differed from previously known submissions, and this was done without any consultation or approval by the appropriate Party organs.

3.6 The Constituency Organiser formally raised concerns with both constituency and regional leadership; however, no lawful or satisfactory resolution was provided.

4. ISSUES FOR DETERMINATION

From the foregoing, the following issues arise for determination:

          •         Whether the Polling Station  Elections Committee in Tarkwa-Nsuaem was constituted in accordance with the Party’s Rules and Regulations;

          •         Whether the failure to convene a Constituency Executive Committee meeting invalidates the selection process;

          •         Whether “urgency” can lawfully justify non-compliance with mandatory procedural requirements;

          •         Whether the inauguration of the Committee, under the circumstances, is valid and sustainable.

5. ARGUMENTS

5.1 It is a well-established principle of organizational governance that where a procedure is prescribed by rules, failure to comply renders the resulting act null and void.

5.2 The complete omission of the Constituency Executive Committee from the selection process constitutes a fundamental procedural defect that cannot be cured by subsequent actions.

5.3 The justification of urgency, as admitted by the Regional Secretary, cannot override mandatory provisions of the Party’s regulations. Expediency must not supplant legality.

5.4 The substitution of qualified categories of persons with improperly designated individuals undermines the integrity, credibility, and fairness of the electoral process.

5.5 The cumulative effect of these breaches points to a pattern of unilateralism and procedural disregard that threatens internal democracy and Party cohesion.

6. LOSS OF CONFIDENCE

We respectfully state that we have lost confidence in:

          •         The Constituency Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Assabill, for failing to exercise oversight and assert leadership;

          •         The Constituency Secretary, Mr. Fuseni Amadu, for acting outside the bounds of established procedures;

          •         The Regional Secretary, Mr. Henry Amankwa Afrifa, and the Regional representative, Kwame Armah for condoning and facilitating procedural breaches.

NPP has no plans to remove Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader – NPP Communications Director https://www.adomonline.com/npp-has-no-plans-to-remove-afenyo-markin-as-minority-leader-npp-communications-director/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 15:10:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655063 Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Queen, has dismissed claims that the party intends to remove Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader in Parliament.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, she described the reports as untrue, stating that no such decision has been taken by the party.

“It is not true; there are no plans to remove Afenyo-Markin. He is still the Minority Leader,” she said.

According to her, suggestions that Afenyo-Markin could be removed due to his alleged association with Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP primaries are inaccurate.

She emphasized that party leadership has not initiated any process to that effect and that Afenyo-Markin continues to serve in his role.

Jennifer Queen further noted that the party held two meetings last week, both of which he attended in his capacity as Minority Leader.

She stressed that his participation in those meetings is evidence that he continues to enjoy the confidence of the party leadership.

NPP denies allegations of dues diversion, debunks ‘fake’ shortcode claims https://www.adomonline.com/npp-denies-allegations-of-dues-diversion-debunks-fake-shortcode-claims/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 19:21:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654755 The New Patriotic Party (New Patriotic Party) has rejected as false and malicious claims circulating on social media alleging that its National Treasurer is diverting party dues into a personal account.

In a statement issued by the Office of the National Treasurer, the party said it had taken note of a publication on a Facebook page identified as “Wo Boooowa,” which alleged that the Treasurer was using the shortcode 7142028# as an alternative channel for dues collection.

The party firmly denied the claim, describing it as a deliberate attempt to undermine its ongoing dues mobilisation efforts.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Party’s dues collection shortcode has always been 920270#,” the statement clarified, adding that the code mentioned in the publication has never been used for revenue collection at any point during the Treasurer’s tenure.

The Office assured members and stakeholders that the official shortcode for dues payments remains unchanged and urged the public to disregard 7142028#, which it said is being circulated with malicious intent.

The NPP further reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in its financial operations, urging members to rely only on verified communication channels.

Hundreds turn up for NPP’s “Yensuro Ahunahuna” demo in Sunyani [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/hundreds-turn-up-for-npps-yensuro-ahunahuna-demo-in-sunyani/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 12:45:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654532 The streets of Sunyani were awash with party colours on Wednesday as supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) staged a massive “Yensuro Ahunahuna” (We Are Not Intimidated) demonstration.

Clad in black, red, white and blue, demonstrators marched through principal streets, chanting “Yensuro Ahunahuna” to signal defiance and resilience in the face of what they describe as political intimidation.

The protest, which drew hundreds of party faithful, is part of growing agitation within sections of the NPP, as supporters demand fairness, transparency and respect for internal party processes.

Adom News’ Christian Ofori Kumah reported that the protest was peaceful, but participants remained resolute, warning that they will sustain pressure until their concerns are addressed.

Participants carried placards with bold inscriptions and sang party songs, creating an atmosphere charged with both protest and solidarity. Some protesters said the demonstration was meant to send a clear message that they would not be silenced or sidelined.

The demonstration is in response to what the NPP has described as growing intimidation and a clampdown on free speech.

The protest follows the arrest of the Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, over allegations of offensive conduct, false publication and the circulation of statements deemed likely to incite fear and panic.

Although he has since been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties, party officials insist the development raises serious concerns about freedom of expression and democratic governance.

Kennedy Agyapong not dividing NPP, holds no grudge – Spokesperson https://www.adomonline.com/kennedy-agyapong-not-dividing-npp-holds-no-grudge-spokesperson/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 11:59:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654457 A spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has dismissed claims of division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), insisting that the former flagbearer aspirant remains committed to the party and harbours no resentment.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Kwarteng revealed that Mr Agyapong recently held a private meeting with the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, describing the engagement as cordial and in the supreme interest of the party.

“They met over a week ago. It was a very private and confidential meeting. There is nothing wrong with aspirants meeting after elections, but the way it has been portrayed in the media has created unnecessary speculation,” he explained.

According to him, contrary to public perception, there are no lingering issues between Mr Agyapong and Dr Bawumia, stressing that the businessman-turned-politician has no bitterness toward the NPP.

Mr Kwarteng attributed the ongoing speculation about Mr Agyapong’s alleged disengagement from the party to his recent low profile, noting that he deliberately took time off after the elections to rest and focus on his business.

He added that Mr Agyapong is currently in China on business.

He further addressed reports about a supposed breakaway group known as “The Base,” believed to be made up of some NPP supporters, clarifying that Mr Agyapong is not associated with the group.

“Ken is not part of The Base. There is no indication that he has left the NPP. While he may be aware of concerns from some supporters, his focus now is on his business and the overall interest of the party,” he stated.

Mr Kwarteng, however, urged the NPP leadership to engage with aggrieved members to address their concerns and prevent further disaffection within the party.

He reiterated that Kennedy Agyapong remains loyal to the NPP and has no intention of contributing to any form of division.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, explained that the protest, dubbed the “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna Demo,” is being organised by the Sunyani East Constituency.

According to him, the demonstration is in response to what the party views as growing intimidation and a clampdown on free speech.

“Following a series of what we consider unwarranted arrests, the party is organising this demonstration. We are not afraid of these actions or the criminalisation of free speech. We believe democracy is under attack,” he said.

The protest follows the arrest of the Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, over allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and the circulation of statements deemed likely to incite fear and panic.

Although he has since been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties, party officials insist the development raises serious concerns about freedom of expression and democratic governance.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Awuku described the engagements as productive and focused on consolidating support within the party.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia initiated the meetings with key figures including Kennedy Agyapong and Kwabena Agyapong, adding that discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere.

He noted that the interactions left the NPP flagbearer feeling satisfied and reassured of the backing of his former contenders.

“He had a very good discussion. He left both Kennedy Agyapong’s meeting and Kwabena Agyapong’s meeting feeling satisfied that he has the support of his colleagues,” Mr Awuku said.

He added that Dr. Bawumia also met Yaw Osei Adutwum and Bryan Acheampong, where ideas were shared and advice offered to strengthen the party’s direction.

Mr Awuku emphasised that the engagements have reinforced a shared belief among party leaders that the NPP remains the best alternative for governing Ghana.

“In all, they were fortified in their belief that the NPP can rescue Ghana better and put us on the path of prosperity,” he stated.

He added that as flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia is open to input from all stakeholders within the party and is committed to building consensus ahead of the elections.

Come back to your roots — Sammi Awuku urges “The Base” members https://www.adomonline.com/come-back-to-your-roots-sammi-awuku-urges-the-base-members/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 16:19:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654138 The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has called on members of the newly reported political movement known as “The Base” to remain loyal to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and work towards strengthening the party.

His comments come amid reports of the formation of “The Base” by some members of the NPP.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, Mr Awuku, who is also a senior advisor to NPP flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia, stressed the need for party unity despite internal disagreements.

He cautioned supporters against abandoning the party simply because their preferred candidate did not emerge victorious in internal elections.

“Loyalty should be to the party first of all. You can’t say because your favourite aspirant didn’t win the election to become flagbearer you are leaving the party,” he stated.

Mr Awuku acknowledged that political parties may experience temporary challenges but insisted that the foundation of the NPP must remain strong.

“The party can have temporary shake-ups, but the foundation should always be strong. You should be in the party because you support the ideals of the party, not anyone,” he added.

He urged members of “The Base” to reconsider their position and return to their roots.

“I’m not saying The Base will hurt the NPP or not, but I am urging them to come back to their roots,” he said.

Speaking on UTV, he emphasised that the Police Service has maintained the same institutional identity since 1992 and has served successive governments regardless of political affiliation.

According to him, this continuity should remind officers of their responsibility to remain neutral and uphold the law without engaging in acts of intimidation or abuse.

He warned that officers who engage in such conduct should be mindful that political power is not permanent.

Sammi Awuku noted that when there is a change in government, individuals within the system may come forward to report actions taken under previous administrations.

He therefore advised security personnel to allow their conscience to guide their actions and avoid any conduct that could later be questioned.

“If you are a police officer, remember that when the government changes, your own people will tell us who you are. So let your conscience be your guide,” he added.

According to him, such a move is unfortunate and should not have occurred within the party.

He, however, expressed confidence that party leadership will address the situation and ensure unity is maintained.

Collins Adomako-Mensah stressed that no individual or group is bigger than the party, warning that attempts to undermine it for parochial interests will not succeed.

The development was revealed by Akuapem North MP, Sammi Awuku, in an interview on Accra-based Peace FM.

According to him, the move forms part of a broader effort to heal divisions that may have emerged after what he described as a fiercely contested primary.

“The contest was intense, and naturally, you need to bring everybody on board going into 2028. The focus now is unity. We need to consolidate and move forward as one party if we want to win 2028,” he stressed.

Dr Bawumia, who was re-elected on January 31, 2026, to lead the party into the 2028 general elections, beat former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, Bosomtwe MP Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Abetifi MP Dr Bryan Acheampong.

Providing details of the engagements, Awuku disclosed that a key meeting has already taken place between Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.

“He has made a personal and private visit to his brother Kennedy Agyapong. They had extensive conversations on how the party can unite in the aftermath of the primaries ahead of 2028,” he said.

He described the outcome as positive and reassuring, emphasising that the initiative is crucial for the party’s future.

“He reported to us that he left the meeting very satisfied, with assurances that Kennedy Agyapong will support him. All the engagements so far have been very constructive, and the responses have been encouraging,” he added.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, he stated that the concept dates back to August 2, 2024, when a free annual healthcare initiative was launched under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to him, the current programme largely relies on existing frameworks and guidelines developed by the former New Patriotic Party administration, and therefore proper credit should have been given.

He further noted that international partners, including USAID and other programmes, had been supporting preventive healthcare initiatives with millions of dollars annually.

Mr. Afriyie also stressed that the successful implementation of free primary healthcare depends heavily on adequate infrastructure, particularly hospitals under the Agenda 111 project. He urged the government to sustain investment in health facilities, especially in underserved communities.

“I don’t wish to politicize this issue, but it’s important to note that free primary healthcare cannot be effectively implemented without Agenda 111, which aims to establish new hospitals,” he said.

He added, “There should be an effort to build at least some hospitals each year. While Agenda 111 may have initially seemed overly ambitious, over the past ten years, we have seen the development of new district hospitals in areas that need them. This effort should be prioritised and pursued diligently.”

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, she reacted to a High Court decision that reportedly removes the prosecutorial authority of the OSP and reassigns it to the Attorney-General’s Department.

According to her, the OSP has not delivered meaningful benefits to Ghanaians despite the resources allocated to it by the state.

She argued that maintaining the office without tangible outcomes amounts to an unnecessary financial burden on the country.

Jennifer Queen therefore welcomed the court’s decision, stating that the shift in prosecutorial authority is appropriate under the circumstances.

She maintained that state institutions must demonstrate value and effectiveness, especially when they are funded with public resources.

Medical equipment procurement is not a new thing — Sammi Awuku https://www.adomonline.com/medical-equipment-procurement-is-not-a-new-thing-sammi-awuku/ Tue, 14 Apr 2026 14:22:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651306 Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has stated that the procurement of medical equipment by the current government is not unprecedented, noting that successive administrations have undertaken similar initiatives.

Speaking on UTV Ghana, he explained that improving healthcare systems is a fundamental responsibility of every government.

According to him, previous administrations under Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo all invested in procuring medical equipment to strengthen the country’s health sector.

He emphasized that the current administration is therefore continuing a long-standing practice rather than introducing a new initiative.

“Procuring medical equipment is not new; successive governments have done it as part of improving Ghana’s healthcare system,” he said.

Mr. Awuku further noted that under the Akufo-Addo administration, efforts went beyond equipment procurement to include the introduction of the 112 hospital project aimed at expanding healthcare infrastructure across districts and regions.

He urged the government to recognize that such interventions are part of a broader, ongoing national effort to improve healthcare delivery.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, he commended government for procuring over 24,543 medical equipment for CHPS compounds and clinics, describing it as a positive step toward improving healthcare delivery.

However, he raised concerns about the lack of completed facilities to house the equipment.

According to him, the previous administration under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo initiated 112 hospital projects, many of which remain uncompleted.

He noted that although the current government has indicated efforts to continue the projects, including reported financial allocations, visible progress has been limited.

Mr. Awuku questioned the practicality of deploying medical equipment without adequate infrastructure, asking where such equipment would be installed if facilities are not ready.

“The NDC government should commit the same energy they are using to procure medical equipment to complete the uncompleted hospitals,” he stated.

He therefore called on government to ensure equal focus is placed on completing abandoned hospital projects so that investments in healthcare equipment will yield meaningful results.

He also referenced past stalled projects, stressing that taxpayer funds must be used efficiently and not left to waste.

In a statement issued on April 13, the party said Mr. Yakubu, accompanied by his lawyer Alfred Tuah Yeboah, honoured a police invitation at the Bono Regional Police Headquarters, only to be informed that officers there had no knowledge of the invitation.

According to the NPP, further checks with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra revealed that he was rather required in the capital, leading to his arrest and subsequent transfer to Accra.

The party expressed concern over what it described as the increasing use of state security agencies to intimidate dissenting voices under the current administration.

It also argued that the incident raises serious questions about free speech and civil liberties in the country, while alleging that it could be a diversion from key national issues, including the cost of living and governance challenges.

The NPP has therefore called on authorities to uphold due process, respect the rule of law, and protect the fundamental rights of all citizens.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 13, 2026

NPP CONDEMNS ARREST OF BABA AMANDO; RAISES CONCERNS OVER FREE SPEECH & ABUSE OF STATE POWER

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongly condemns the arrest of Mr. Abubakar Yakubu, the Sunyani East Constituency Communications Officer, popularly known as Baba Amando, describing the action as unwarranted and deeply troubling for Ghana’s democratic credentials.

According to available information, Mr. Yakubu, accompanied by his lawyer, Mr. Alfred Tuah Yeboah, a former Deputy Attorney-General, honoured an invitation from the Ghana Police Service at the Bono Regional Police Headquarters at approximately 10:00 a.m. today. Upon arrival, however, both Mr. Yakubu and his counsel were informed by officers at the command that they had no knowledge of such an invitation, despite prior communication directing him to report there.

Subsequent engagement with the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra revealed that Mr. Yakubu was instead required in Accra. The CID in Accra reportedly instructed the Bono Regional Police CID to effect his arrest and facilitate his transfer to the capital. He has since been arrested and is currently being conveyed to Accra.

The NPP views this development as yet another example of the growing use of state security apparatus to intimidate and silence dissenting voices under the administration of President John Mahama. The Party is particularly concerned that this action raises serious questions about the state of free speech and civil liberties in the country.

Furthermore, the Party believes this incident constitutes a diversionary tactic aimed at shifting public attention away from pressing national challenges, including LGBT issues, failed formula “1-3-3”, rising cost of living, increasing fuel prices, increasing utility tariffs, and what it describes as the government’s failure to deliver on key policy promises.

The NPP calls on all Ghanaians to remain vigilant and to resist any attempts to undermine democratic freedoms. The Party further urges the relevant authorities to uphold the rule of law, respect due process, and safeguard the fundamental rights of all citizens.

Mahama is a better economic manager than NPP — United Party Legal Affairs Director https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-is-a-better-economic-manager-than-npp-united-party-legal-affairs-director/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 11:51:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649930 Director of Legal and Constitutional Affairs for the United Party, Andrew Appiah Danquah, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama has demonstrated stronger economic management compared to the previous administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, he argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), having governed for eight years, has an established track record and should not present arguments in opposition that contradict its actions while in power.

According to him, while governance comes with challenges, recent measures such as the suspension of some fuel taxes reflect a more responsive and pragmatic approach under the current administration.

He added that beyond isolated policies, President Mahama has shown a better grasp of managing the country’s economic system.

Andrew Appiah Danquah maintained that his assessment is based on observable outcomes, insisting that Mahama’s handling of the economy surpasses that of the NPP during its time in office.

“Mahama has proven that he is a better manager of the economy than the NPP under Nana Addo’s administration, and that is established,” he said.

Return and account to Ghanaians — Ofori-Atta told https://www.adomonline.com/return-and-account-to-ghanaians-ofori-atta-told/ Thu, 09 Apr 2026 15:38:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649603 The Deputy Director of Operations of the United Party (UP), Afia Korankyewaa, has criticised former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta over his failure to return to Ghana to account for his stewardship, suggesting that his absence raises serious concerns.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, she argued that his refusal to appear for accountability gives the impression that he may have something to hide.

According to her, if the former minister is genuinely unwell, there are capable medical facilities in Ghana that can provide adequate care, making his continued stay abroad questionable.

“Ken Ofori-Atta’s refusal to return and account to Ghanaians suggests he has something to hide,” she added.

She stressed that public officials must be willing to account for their actions, especially when concerns have been raised about their tenure.

Afia Korankyewaa also called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that Ofori-Atta returns to Ghana, noting that their silence on the matter does little to support accountability.

She added that failing to address such issues could reinforce public perceptions about governance and accountability, particularly if the party seeks to return to power in the future.

Anti-LGBTQ: NPP cannot pressure Mahama to sign a bill not yet received – Solomon Owusu https://www.adomonline.com/anti-lgbtq-npp-cannot-pressure-mahama-to-sign-a-bill-not-yet-received-solomon-owusu/ Thu, 09 Apr 2026 11:21:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649487 Director of Communications for the United Party, Solomon Owusu, has stated that it is unreasonable for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to mount pressure on President John Dramani Mahama to assent to the anti-LGBTQ bill when it has not yet been formally transmitted to the Presidency.

Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews on Thursday, April 9, Mr. Owusu stressed that ongoing political criticism of the president over the matter is misplaced, insisting that due process must be completed before any expectation of presidential action.

“Reminding the president, what they do is very important,” he said, linking his remarks to the growing public debate over the handling of the legislation.

He further defended President Mahama, arguing that there was no basis for the pressure being mounted by political actors.

“We cannot even fault President Mahama to that large extent because, as we speak, there is no bill before President Mahama for him to sign.”

Mr Owusu also made reference to the handling of similar legislative matters under the previous NPP administration, led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, suggesting that the process was treated differently at the time.

He further questioned the current political pressure being exerted on the president.

“That’s why I asked, who is intimidating our president? Who is doing that?” he questioned.

His comments come amid renewed political exchanges over the anti-LGBT bill, with the Minority also weighing in on the matter.

Speaking on behalf of the minority at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters, the member of Parliament for Assin South and sponsor of the anti-LGBT bill, John Ntim Fordjour, referenced recommendations contained in the Constitutional Review Committee’s report, citing pages 107 and 108.

The minority also called on President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to apologise to religious and traditional leaders, accusing them of failing to prioritise the anti-LGBT bill.

NPP NEC increases polling station committee workload ahead of internal elections https://www.adomonline.com/npp-nec-increases-polling-station-committee-workload-ahead-of-internal-elections/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 19:24:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649215 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive Committee (NEC) has increased the workload of its polling station election committees as part of preparations for upcoming internal elections.

Under the new arrangement, each committee will now supervise 25 polling stations, up from the previous 10, in a move aimed at streamlining the process and reducing the number of committees.

Speaking after an emergency NEC meeting, Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah described the change as a minor adjustment to improve efficiency.

He explained that the decision followed feedback on earlier guidelines and is intended to simplify election management at the grassroots level.

Mr. Ahiagbah also confirmed that the NEC has maintained its earlier directive barring members who registered online but failed to validate their details at polling stations from participating in the elections.

He stressed that the timelines for the exercise have closed, ruling out any extension, but noted that discussions are ongoing on possible measures, including a register exhibition, to address concerns around integrating online and physical records.

NPP NEC rejects extension for online registration validation https://www.adomonline.com/npp-nec-rejects-extension-for-online-registration-validation/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 19:07:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649195 The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected appeals to extend the deadline for its ongoing membership registration validation exercise.

The party insists that members who completed the online registration but failed to validate their details at polling stations before the deadline will not be granted any extension.

Speaking after a NEC meeting, the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, explained that extending the deadline would disrupt the party’s timetable as it prepares to conduct polling station elections in the coming weeks.

He reiterated that validation at polling stations remains a mandatory requirement for members to attain full membership status.

Mr Ahiagbah also disclosed that the party is considering holding its National Delegates Congress in September in Kumasi, although a final decision is yet to be made.

Kasoa market demolition: NPP calls for immediate compensation for traders https://www.adomonline.com/kasoa-market-demolition-npp-calls-for-immediate-compensation-for-traders/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 14:30:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649118 The Awutu Senya East Constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have condemned the recent demolition exercise at the Kasoa Market, which displaced nearly 1,000 petty traders.

According to the party, the exercise has caused severe hardship, leaving many traders without their sources of livelihood. They are urging the government to provide immediate compensation to support affected victims.

Speaking at a press conference, the constituency secretary criticised the handling of the demolition, while Campaign Coordinator Kojo Anim described the eviction as “total wickedness” against vulnerable traders.

Some party members also called on the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East to engage directly with the victims to address their concerns.

They further labelled the actions of the Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, as troubling and insensitive.

Kwakye Ofosu rejects NPP Minority’s call for apology over anti-LGBTQ bill https://www.adomonline.com/kwakye-ofosu-rejects-npp-minoritys-call-for-apology-over-anti-lgbtq-bill/ Wed, 08 Apr 2026 06:34:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2648808 The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed calls by the Minority in Parliament for President John Dramani Mahama to apologise over the government’s handling of the anti-LGBTQ bill.

His remarks follow concerns raised by the Minority over what it described as attempts to introduce LGBTQ-related concepts into Ghana’s Constitution through the ongoing constitutional review process.

Speaking at a press conference on 7 April, the Member of Parliament for Assin South and sponsor of the anti-LGBTQ bill, John Ntim Fordjour, cited recommendations on pages 107 and 108 of the Constitutional Review Committee’s report as evidence of what he described as troubling developments.

The Minority subsequently called on the President and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to apologise to religious and traditional leaders for allegedly failing to prioritise the bill.

Responding to the claims on The Pulse on JoyNews on Tuesday, 7 April, Mr Kwakye Ofosu rejected the demand.

“What is there to apologise for?” he questioned. “Are you telling me that what matters most to the public is the LGBTQ issue and not their welfare? Is that what the NPP is pushing?”

He criticised the Minority’s stance, arguing that the government’s primary focus remains the welfare of citizens, particularly in areas such as job creation and economic stability.

“So the President should go and apologise for making the welfare of Ghanaians his priority? Is that what they are calling you for? Where is the logic in this?” he asked.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also expressed concern about what he described as misplaced priorities by the opposition.

“Why do they waste their time in the manner that they do? Should the president apologise for saying that the youth of Ghana having jobs is a priority? He should apologise for saying that?” he added.

He further questioned the timing of the Minority’s renewed push on the anti-LGBTQ legislation, suggesting that the issue was not treated as urgent when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in government.

“Indeed, if it were a priority for them (NPP), why did they not sign it when they were in power? When did it become a priority for them? Only when they left power?” he asked.

NPP lacks credibility on LGBTQ issues – Akwatia MP https://www.adomonline.com/npp-lacks-credibility-on-lgbtq-issues-akwatia-mp/ Tue, 07 Apr 2026 19:33:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2648774 The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the credibility to comment on LGBTQ issues.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, he argued that the clergy are well informed about developments surrounding the bill and would not be influenced by what he described as propaganda.

Mr. Baidoo maintained that President John Dramani Mahama has been consistent in his stance and has assured that he will assent to the bill when it is duly passed by Parliament.

He stressed that the matter remains a parliamentary process and should not be politicised, adding that the President should only act after the legislative process is completed.

“The NPP lacks the credibility to comment on LGBTQ issues; they should be among the last to engage in such discussions. The clergy is aware of the developments regarding the bill, so they will not be swayed by the NPP’s propaganda. Mahama has assured us that he will support the bill when it is presented to him. He has consistently maintained a firm stance on LGBTQ matters.

“The parliamentary process cannot be halted midway; there have already been discussions regarding the current bill. The President should not interfere with this process; it is best to allow parliamentary procedures to unfold,” he said.

NPP behind every monumental agenda in Ghana – Miracles Aboagye https://www.adomonline.com/npp-behind-every-monumental-agenda-in-ghana-miracles-aboagye/ Tue, 07 Apr 2026 19:14:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2648751 The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracle Aboagye, claims the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has driven every “monumental agenda” undertaken in Ghana.

Highlighting NPP achievements across various sectors, Mr. Aboagye began with healthcare: “Go to the health sector. The single most important policy that deals with the fundamentals of our health system, National Health Insurance, is under the NPP.”

He also pointed to education reforms initiated during former President John Kufuor’s administration, saying that Kufuor had identified poverty as the main reason Ghanaian children were dropping out of school by year four or five.

He explained that Kufuor made FCUBE a reality at the basic school level, ensuring that every child could attend school without financial barriers. He said that even after school fees were removed, many children were still unable to attend because families could not afford food.

To address this, he added, the NPP government introduced school feeding, which doubled at the basic level. He further said that secondary school education was also made free by the NPP.

Social intervention programmes also featured prominently.

“Take the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme. It takes care of extremely poor people by providing quarterly and monthly stipends. That’s the NPP,” he said.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM show on April 7, Mr. Aboagye outlined the party’s ongoing reorganisation, explaining that every organisation evolves and that the NPP is being shaped by lessons from the past, experiences from the present, and a vision for the future.

He noted that the party would not be the same as it was in 2023 or 2024, reflecting the ideas and aspirations of the people.

Describing the NPP as a mass political party, he added: “The aspirations and ideas of the people will inform and form what we will become afterwards. And that’s what we are working towards. We believe that we provide the most credible alternative to the challenges of this country.”

Mr. Aboagye also criticised the performance of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting that its policies have yet to deliver life-changing results for Ghanaians.

“Albeit we are not perfect, if you pick sector by sector across the country, tell me, which aspects of our country will this NDC government beat us at? Mention any legacy, developmental performance, or anything you have in this country. What do you have on top of your mind that you will say, ‘This is life-changing for the Ghanaian person,’ and it’s from the NDC? Mention one,” he challenged.

Mr Aboagye further highlighted improvements in the country’s emergency services: “When the NPP came into office in 2017, our emergency system was broken and practically non-existent. Today, compared to eight years ago, it is highly elevated thanks to the ambulances introduced by the NPP.”

He also cited post-COVID interventions in healthcare, noting that the NPP addressed gaps in district hospitals, providing facilities for about 88 districts that previously lacked them.

“Every monumental agenda that this country has pursued is by the NPP. And that is what we believe, and that’s what we are presenting to the Ghanaian people,” he said.

Concluding, Mr. Aboagye acknowledged that all governments face challenges but argued that the NPP is committed to delivering lasting solutions:

“Every government will have its downsides. Every government will have its challenges. But we need to look at a government that doesn’t deliver mediocrity. A government that delivers lasting, life-changing solutions to every Ghanaian everywhere—that is the NPP. And those are the things we are riding on in our reorganisation.”

NPP faces internal pressure as group opposes second term for Justin Kodua https://www.adomonline.com/npp-faces-internal-pressure-as-group-opposes-second-term-for-justin-kodua/ Sat, 04 Apr 2026 07:54:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2647710 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is facing mounting internal pressure as sections of its grassroots support base express dissatisfaction with the leadership of General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.

A pressure group, the National Youth Ambassadors for Change (NYAC), has been at the forefront of the criticism.

Its leader, Kwadwo Sebe, says expectations were high when Mr. Kodua assumed office in July 2022 after the party’s National Delegates Conference.

He noted that many believed Mr. Kodua’s leadership would energise the party, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and position the NPP for electoral success.

However, the critics argue that these expectations have not been met.

The NPP’s parliamentary performance has become a key point of concern. In the 2020 general elections, the party secured 137 seats and maintained Majority status. However, in the 2024 elections, its representation dropped to 87 seats, pushing the party into the Minority.

The loss of 50 parliamentary seats has been described by critics as a significant setback, raising concerns about party unity, strategy, and voter confidence.

Internal critics have cited several issues they believe contributed to the decline, including weak grassroots engagement, poor internal communication, and challenges in managing internal conflicts. Others point to the absence of a clear political strategy during the period.

Once regarded as a cohesive political force, the party is now said to be dealing with internal divisions and declining morale among supporters.

As the NPP begins preparations toward the 2028 general elections, debate is intensifying over whether Mr. Kodua should be retained.

Opponents, like the National Youth Ambassadors for Change, argue that maintaining the current leadership could affect efforts to rebuild the party and restore grassroots confidence. They insist that the decision will be crucial to the party’s political future.

Political observers say the NPP is at a critical stage, with internal decisions in the coming months expected to shape its ability to recover and reposition itself.

For many critics, the need for change is central to efforts to rebuild and strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

Calls grow within NPP to halt use of Bawumia’s name in internal campaigns https://www.adomonline.com/calls-grow-within-npp-to-halt-use-of-bawumias-name-in-internal-campaigns/ Sat, 04 Apr 2026 07:53:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2647713 A New Patriotic Party (NPP) pressure group, the National Youth Ambassadors for Change (NYAC), led by Kwadwo Sebe, has urged party faithful to exercise caution, warning against what it describes as the politicisation of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s image amid rising internal tensions.

The group specifically cautioned the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, as well as key allies including Sammy Awuku and Henry Nana Boakye, against projecting perceived backing of the flagbearer in ongoing internal dynamics.

Concerns have been mounting among party members over what many describe as a growing tendency to associate Dr. Bawumia with the political survival or advancement of certain individuals—an approach critics say risks deepening divisions within the party.

According to party insiders and grassroots supporters, attempts to link Dr. Bawumia’s image to bolster confidence in specific personalities, particularly Mr. Kodua Frimpong, could undermine unity and erode trust among the rank and file.

Critics argue that Dr. Bawumia, widely regarded as a unifying figure and a key pillar of the party’s future, should not be drawn into what they term “factional endorsements” or “strategic name-dropping” aimed at enhancing the standing of individuals facing internal scrutiny.

The concerns also extend to leading communicators and organisers within the party, who are being urged to exercise restraint and protect the integrity of the party’s leadership structure.

Fuel price hikes: Reality is catching up with NDC – Ahiagbah https://www.adomonline.com/fuel-price-hikes-reality-is-catching-up-with-ndc-ahiagbah/ Tue, 31 Mar 2026 20:07:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2646599 The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has criticised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over its handling of rising fuel prices.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Ahiagbah accused the NDC of backtracking on claims it made while in opposition regarding the impact of global events on Ghana’s fuel sector. He argued that the party previously dismissed the influence of external factors such as war on fuel prices but is now attributing current challenges to ongoing global tensions, including the Iran–Israel conflict.

“The NDC, while in opposition, portrayed the NPP as indifferent to the concerns of Ghanaians, claiming that the Akufo-Addo administration lacked ideas to address the fuel sector. It is disingenuous to suggest that the ongoing war came as a surprise. From the start of the conflict, what actions were they taking? Now, they are merely hoping for the war to end. The criticisms they levelled against the NPP have come back to haunt them, as they find themselves in the very situation they once condemned,” he said.

Mr. Ahiagbah argued that the situation exposes a lack of preparedness, insisting that competent leadership should anticipate and plan for such developments. He further claimed that the NDC relied on propaganda to criticise the previous administration but is now confronting the realities of governance.

“The government must be held accountable for its promises to Ghanaians, rather than shifting blame to external factors. Their belief that this war is the sole cause of our challenges is disheartening. They have lost the benefit of the doubt after previously asserting that a war could never affect us in this way. What has changed? Competent leadership should anticipate challenges. Their promises to the Ghanaian people seem to have fallen flat if they are now resorting to prayer as their solution,” he stated.

Speaking at a meeting with the Tertiary Students Confederacy on Wednesday, March 25, he expressed confidence in the party’s strength despite its current minority position in Parliament.

“We are 87, but we are mighty,” he said, downplaying the numerical advantage of the governing side and insisting that the NPP remains a formidable political force.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasised the need for the party to translate its strength into electoral victory by securing a commanding majority in Parliament to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He likened the current political atmosphere to the period leading up to the 2016 elections, noting that the party is experiencing a similar wave of optimism.

The Effutu MP also suggested there is uncertainty within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding its future leadership, while highlighting the NPP’s readiness with what he described as a “tried and tested” candidate.

He called on party members to remain united and rally behind Dr. Bawumia to drive the next phase of Ghana’s transformation.

“We kept the lights on for 8 years without the Dumsor Levy,” he said.

Speaking on PrimeMorning on Joy Prime, he criticised the current government’s decision to introduce a GH₵1 levy on fuel, arguing that it places an additional burden on citizens.

According to him, the NPP government was able to maintain power stability over the period without imposing any levy specifically for electricity supply.

He acknowledged that there were some challenges toward the latter part of 2024, particularly around November, but said the situation was managed through the introduction of a timetable to guide consumers.

Awal Mohammed maintained that effective management of the energy sector does not require additional taxes, insisting that the levy is unnecessary given the economic pressures facing citizens.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV Ghana, she responded to calls by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the levy to be scrapped.

According to her, the current administration inherited a struggling energy sector burdened with significant debt, which required urgent intervention.

She explained that the levy forms part of measures being implemented to help clear the accumulated debt and stabilise the sector.

“The government is not intending to cheat Ghanaians with the GH₵1 fuel levy,” she stated.

Awo Kekeli further argued that it would be counterproductive for the government to work towards stabilising the currency while simultaneously implementing policies that worsen the burden on citizens.

She maintained that the levy is a necessary step aimed at addressing long-standing challenges in the energy sector.
