According to him, this was one of the biggest challenges during his Ghana to the World Concert that took place in the USA last year.

He explained that, most of the musicians have not structured their craft professionally, hence it becomes difficult when you have to sign a contract with them.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z with George Quaye, Mr Gyimah said he never blamed artistes for such misappropriations, but he realised they should also be partially blamed.

“I used to say it’s not the issue of the artiste, but with time I have got to know. In every job, you do, you need to surround yourself with professional people who know the job, not people learning what you are also learning.”

“This limits artistes, and some don’t even know how contracts work. If you ask most artistes if they have contracts with their managers, about 80 per cent of them will be like no.”

According to the Chief Executive Officer and President of Inside LLC, New Jersey’s premier full-service business management and consulting company, Mr Gyimah, the reason “we don’t acknowledge such issues is that Ghana is like a hub. Everyone knows everyone and they think they are friends.”

He said, unlike Nigerians who pay mind to the business side first, it’s only a few Ghanaian artistes that have been able to structure their team professionally to put themselves on the map.

According to Mr Gyimah, Nigeria projected more than seven of their musicians into the limelight in less than a year, yet Ghanaians are struggling to make it up in the diaspora’s sphere.

“With those who have a team, you see them. We have about seven artistes who were discovered this year in Nigeria. They all have global presence. How many can we count for our people? The same people headlining five years ago are still heading in Ghana… just a few heads. If you have … it is happening in sports and other sectors too,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Gyimah has urged Ghanaians, especially those in the diaspora to gear up for the part two of the Ghana to the World Concert, which has many A-list Ghanaian artistes and entertainers billed on November 6, 2022 in the USA.

I sacrificed my life for Nigerians to accept Ghanaian musicians – Shatta Wale [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/i-sacrificed-my-life-for-nigerians-to-accept-ghanaian-musicians-shatta-wale-video/ Sun, 17 Jul 2022 07:46:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2137120 Dancehall musician Shatta Wale says he has to be given the due credit for paving the way for Nigerians to warmly accept Ghanaian musicians in their country.

According to him, calling Nigerians out on stage during his stadium concert last year has yielded positive results because Ghanaian musicians are now recognised by Nigerians.

The whole point triggered during his 2021 Freedom Wave Concert at the Accra Sports Stadium, where he called out Nigerians during his performance.

“I no dey watch any f**king Nigerians, I dey watch you people, you be my Nigerians, Americans, Ebi you be my Yankee people. F**k Nigeria,” Shatta Wale told his fans.

The statement triggered the Nigerian entertainment industry, with players such as Yul Edochie and other celebrities reacting to his “unfortunate” statement.

According to Shatta Wale, most Ghanaian musicians are focused on getting a hit song in Nigeria, but he is rather focused on breaking into the USA market.

Every Ghanaian artiste wants to be in Nigeria, but I want to be in America. That is where the gold and diamond is. I saw this years ago. Their mentality is there… They all wanted their songs to hit there.

I sacrificed my life to do that on stage for Nigeria to start inviting our colleagues, and now the Nigerians blog about them when they get there.

Davido is my guy, Burna Boy is my guy. It’s only WizKid that I have not had the rapport with. But all the boys making waves are my boys. The little mistake you do, I will shift myself… If I discuss something with you that you won’t take serious, I won’t come back again because it’s business. I have things I have discussed with Davido and Burna and if you don’t take it we can’t go like that, he explained.

Asked if he is sacred to stage a show in Nigeria, Shatta said: I am not scared to go to Nigeria.

The Nigerians understand what I am doing, and they know I am paving a way for my colleagues. Ghanaians have appreciated me enough, but the entertainment space hasn’t, he told Andy Dosty.

Why most Ghanaian artistes hardly make it in foreign markets – Nigerian music promoter https://www.adomonline.com/why-most-ghanaian-artistes-hardly-make-it-in-foreign-markets-nigerian-music-promoter/ Tue, 12 May 2020 11:53:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1792859 Nigerian music promoter and blogger, Yemi Baba, has said that many artistes in Ghana “underestimate” themselves, something he says has hindered their success in foreign markets.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Monday, he stated that they are afraid to go the extra mile or move beyond their comfort zones to promote their music.

This, he explained, is the reason why it looks as if Nigerians are ruling the music industry even in Ghana.

“We [Nigerians] have a culture of being able to promote [our own]. We know how to spend and promote [the music] to make it big.”

“So, when we do that [in Ghana] it would look as if Nigerians came here to blow. Most Ghanaians artistes, however, underestimate themselves in this regard,” he told Sammy Forson, host of the show.

His comments come after Stonebwoy made the assertion that many Nigerian acts usually had to come to Ghana before they got recognised even in their own country.

Yemi Baba said that in every country Nigerian artistes go to, they ensure that they are in contact with the right industry people and gatekeepers who would get them the right exposure.

They also go in with money and the determination to break into any spot regardless of the difficulty, adding that, “if I come into Ghana with money, then, I am ready to open my hand.”

That is the culture many artistes in Ghana are missing, he said.

Although Ghanaians are making good music it does not seem like they are ready to spend or “grab the bull by the horns,” Yemi Baba added.

He stated that if Nigerians do what they can to make it, Ghanaians should also be able to go into other countries, build connections with the right people and promote their music.

Using Stonebwoy’s example, Mr Eazi, Yemi Baba said, “Mr Eazi was living here (so) it is a normal thing that he makes it big here. If he was in Kenya or anywhere and does his homework he is going to blow there too.”
