English Championship club Swansea City have completed the signing of Ghanaian winger Joseph Opoku from Belgian side Zulte Waregem.
The 20-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Welsh club, with an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months.
Opoku, who developed through the ranks at Ghanaian club Great Corinthians FC, moved to Belgium in 2024 to join Jong Essevee before switching to Zulte Waregem later that year.
The talented winger played a key role in Zulte Waregem’s successful 2025/26 campaign, helping the club secure promotion to the Belgian Pro League after winning the Challenger Pro League title.
His impressive performances during the season saw him score 10 goals and provide six assists in 34 league appearances, earning recognition as one of the club’s standout attacking players. His form also earned him his first senior call-up and appearance for the Ghana national team in May 2026.
Known for his pace, direct running, and attacking ability, Opoku is expected to provide additional options for Swansea City’s forward line as the club prepares for the new Championship season.
Swansea head coach Vitor Matos praised the youngster’s experience despite his age, highlighting his readiness for the demands of English football.
“He is a young player who has been exposed to a lot of senior football in Belgium,” he said.
“He will be able to adapt to the physicality, the intensity, and the number of games in the Championship, as we know he is a fast and sharp player.
“Opoku has joined us here in Austria, and he has had his first training session. We’re excited to have him here.”
Swansea Sporting Director Ben Stevens also expressed his excitement about the club’s latest acquisition, backing the winger to continue his development.
“Really excited with Joseph joining us and looking forward to seeing his attacking potential flourish in Vitor’s team.
“Two full seasons with Zulte Waregem in Belgium’s top division, plus being involved with Ghana’s national teams, highlight the ability of this young talent.”
Opoku joins Swansea City as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.
