The Head of Maternal and Child Birth Service at Craddle Maternity Hospital, Maame Serwaa Major has advised expectant mothers to stop consuming liver products because it is poisonous to them.
Speaking on the maiden edition of Adom FM’s health reality show for pregnant women, ‘Nyinsen Ne Awo’, the midwife said liver products contain poisonous substances that lead to complications in pregnancy.
Maame Serwah said the liver foods contain high amounts of preformed Vitamin A; a type of Vitamin A, which can cause birth defects and also affect the baby’s development especially during the first months of pregnancy.
She also warned against pregnant women consuming alcohol during the early stages of their pregnancy, saying that will make them give birth to children who are ‘headstrong and stubborn.’
Maame Serwaa Major however revealed that every pregnant woman needs about 200mg of caffeine in their body and advised that they can take in small amounts of Coca-Cola to meet that need.
“A bottle of Coca-Cola a day will help enhance the heath of pregnant women,” she said.
