Former Black Stars defender, John Mensah is confident the Black Starlets will defeat the Ménas of Niger in the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in India.

The former Sunderland defender believes the starlets have what it takes to defeat the Nigeriens.

“They shouldn’t be complacent at all, going into their next game against Niger, they should play their hearts out. They shouldn’t think that because they won 4-0 against India it will be easy, it will be difficult but I believe in them, I know they can do it” he told Asempa sports.

Ghana thrashed India 4-0 to qualify for round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 World Cup and is hoping to repeat the same performance against Niger.

But John Mensah who played the 2006 and 2010 World Cup tournaments, and also the 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2012 AFCON tournaments cautioned the Starlets not to be complacent.

“The players should make sure they stay together, listen to the coach and try as much as they can to avoid mistakes and fight for the nation” he advised.

The Black Starlets are scheduled to play Niger at 11:30 am on Wednesday.
