General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress [NDC], Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has accused some Ghanaian journalist of being in the pocket of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

According to Mr Nketiah, the presence of such journalist in EC’s pocket has cowed them into silence on the electoral body’s decision to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the December 7, polls.

He alleged the EC had held a secret meeting with some top journalists and impressed on them not to speak against the compilation of the new register.

“Ever since the EC had a meeting with senior editors of some media houses, their thoughts on the issues have changed,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Mr Nketiah, however failed to name the journalists in question except to say that they were senior editors from Ghana’s media houses.

The NDC and some 18 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have registered their opposition to EC’s decision to compile a new voter’s register.

The EC has set April 18 to May 30, 2020 for the compilation process for the new register.

The new electoral roll is expected to be backed by improved technology and security features of which the current one is deficient.

The Commission’s decision stands, despite resistance from some opposition parties who claim the current register is credible.
