Johnson Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has served notice that his country is about to turn on more heat on the Electoral Commission (EC).

The party’s decision, he said, was because the EC was being deliberately recalcitrant to rescind its decision to compile a new register.

General Mosquito as he is popularly called disclosed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.

The Inter-party Resistance Against the New Voter’s Register had suspended its protest against the EC after its demonstration in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

The move was in response to calls on them to rather dialogue with the electoral body for a peaceful resolution of the matter.

However, Asiedu Nketia said the EC had acted in bad faith when it announced a date for the commencement of the new voters registration exercise.

“The EC has credibility deficit but I don’t know whether it’s borne out of mischief, incompetence or corruption,” he stated.

General Mosquito said given the conduct of the EC, it was obvious it had taken the NDC’s leniency to be her weakness.

Going forward, the NDC scribe said aside the protests, they will engage in other lawful means to get their grievances addressed.

The only way for a free and fair election, Mr. Asiedu Nketia added, is for the EC to heed to their call and use the old register for the elections in December 2020.
