Six injured as vehicle plunges into Birim River

Six people have been injured after a Toyota Corolla veered off the road and plunged into the Birim River at Biremso on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, near the Anyinasin Junction.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Bunso Fire Station received a distress call about the incident at 9:04 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, and immediately dispatched a crew to the scene.

An eyewitness told fire officers that he heard a loud crash and rushed to the area, where he found the black Toyota Corolla, with registration number GR 1425-18, in the river.

By the time the fire crew arrived, members of the public had already rescued the occupants and transported them to the Hawa Saviour Memorial Hospital for medical attention.

All six occupants, who were male, sustained injuries. No fatalities were recorded.

The vehicle was completely damaged in the crash, while some personal belongings were retrieved from the wreckage.

The cause of the accident has not yet been established and remains under investigation.
