Chancellor and psychologist, Rev. Eric Bentil, has cautioned the public against recording their sexual activities, warning that the circulation of intimate videos could have serious and lasting consequences for individuals’ personal and professional lives.

Speaking to Adom News, Rev. Eric Bentil described what he said was the recent rise in the circulation of intimate videos allegedly involving public figures and private individuals as worrying.

“People must be very careful about recording their sexual activities because once such content gets out, the consequences can follow them for many years,” Rev. Eric Bentil warned.

His comments come amid the circulation on social media of videos recently in public domain, allegedly involving some influencers and private individuals which the identities and circumstances surrounding the videos have not been independently verified.

Rev. Bentil said people must consider the long-term consequences of decisions made in private, particularly at a time when digital content can be copied, downloaded and redistributed rapidly.

“Once an intimate video gets onto social media, it becomes extremely difficult to completely take it back. People can download it, share it and repost it on different platforms,” he said.

According to him the impact of such leaks can go beyond embarrassment, potentially affecting an individual’s reputation, relationships, employment prospects and future ambitions.

He warned that people who aspire to occupy prominent positions in society, including public office, could face additional scrutiny if intimate content involving them becomes widely circulated.

“Something you do privately today can have public consequences many years later. You have to think about your future before you record or share such content,” Rev. Bentil advised.

He further urged individuals whose intimate content may have been leaked or circulated online to seek professional counselling and psychological support.

“If someone finds themselves in such a situation, they should not suffer in silence. Professional counselling can help them deal with the emotional and psychological effects,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of the public have expressed mixed reactions to the recent circulation of alleged intimate videos.

Some have described the development as disturbing and a reflection of what they consider to be troubling times, while others have suggested that some of the incidents could be deliberate attempts to attract public attention.

However, there is no independent confirmation that the alleged videos were deliberately leaked for publicity.
