Matchday Four of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League produced a weekend of surprises, with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko both suffering shock defeats as the race at the top of the table took another twist.
The round of fixtures began on Saturday, 26 September, and concluded on Sunday, 27 September, with several dramatic late goals and standout performances across the country.
Saturday’s biggest talking point came at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, where Karela United ended Hearts of Oak’s unbeaten start to the season with a narrow 1-0 victory.
Mohammed Zaidan struck in the 88th minute to settle a closely contested encounter, leaving the Phobians empty-handed after looking set to extend their unbeaten run.
Sunday brought another major upset as Aduana FC defeated Asante Kotoko 2-0 at the Baba Yara Stadium despite finishing the match with 10 men.
Stephen Amankona handed the visitors the lead before half-time after punishing a costly mistake from Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad.
Kotoko dominated possession after the restart but were unable to find an equaliser. Deep into stoppage time, Seidu Saana broke away on the counterattack to wrap up an impressive victory for Aduana.
FC AshantiGold claimed a 2-1 home victory over Debibi United at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
Abdul Samed Yakubu opened the scoring in the 38th minute before Clement Nketiah restored parity before the break. Frederick Twumasi netted the decisive goal in the 61st minute to secure all three points.
Bechem United also made home advantage count, defeating Dreams FC 1-0 at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.
Atta Derrick Afriyie’s first-half strike proved enough to hand the Hunters victory while condemning Dreams to another disappointing result.
Berekum Chelsea were denied victory in dramatic fashion as Vision FC earned a 1-1 draw at Golden City Park.
After a goalless opening half, Seidu Abubakar put Chelsea ahead in the 58th minute, but Ruben Quaye rescued a point for the visitors with a stoppage-time equaliser.
Newcomers Port City FC continued their impressive start by defeating Bibiani Gold Stars 2-0 at DUN’s Park.
First-half goals from Emmanuel Intori and Richard Gyamfi sealed another notable victory for the debutants while extending Gold Stars’ difficult start to the campaign.
Defending champions Medeama SC produced the most emphatic performance of the weekend with a 4-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars at TNA Park.
The visitors made the brighter start when Patrick Ocran opened the scoring after 15 minutes, but Medeama responded with four first-half goals.
Prince Owusu, Emmanuel Annor, Kelvin Nkrumah and Kingsley Braye all found the net before the interval as the champions turned the contest on its head in ruthless fashion.
Swedru All Blacks were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Samartex at Swedru Stadium.
Salis Mohammed gave the hosts an early lead after nine minutes, but Kwaku Owusu levelled in the 54th minute to earn Samartex a valuable away point.
Heart of Lions left Wenchi with all three points after defeating Young Apostles 2-1.
Samuel Prempeh gave the hosts a half-time lead, but Francis Odoom equalised five minutes into the second half before Mustapha Yakubu struck in the 90th minute to complete the comeback.
At the end of Matchday Four, FC Samartex, Hearts of Oak, Port City FC and FC AshantiGold occupy the league’s top four positions.
At the other end of the table, Bibiani Gold Stars, Young Apostles and Dreams FC remain in the relegation zone after another challenging weekend.
