Two students of Ada Senior High Technical School (ADA SHTS) have been convicted by the Ada West District Court after changing their pleas to guilty in a case involving the assault of a fellow student.
The two, 20-year-old Oscar Amemasor and 18-year-old Emmanuel Senunya, were facing charges of assault and abetment of assault following an incident that occurred in February 2026.
The incident was recorded on video and subsequently circulated widely on social media.
According to the prosecution, Amemasor attacked the victim with a metal bar, while Senunya was captured holding a cutlass during the incident.
Their lawyer, Enock Teye Sewornu, told Citi News that the decision to change the pleas was made after considering the circumstances of the case and what was in the best interest of the students.
Following their guilty pleas, the court convicted the two and directed them to enter into a 12-month bond to be of good behaviour.
Mr Sewornu said the court proceedings had now been brought to an end, describing the outcome as a relief for the students and their families.
“Fortunately for us, today we brought the case to an end. After looking at the matter holistically, they changed their plea, and they’ve taken the plea again, and they have pleaded guilty to the offence of assault and then abetment of crime,” he said.
He added that the students were now free and had recently received their examination results as they prepared to continue their education at the university.
“So they were convicted, and they were to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months. So, finally, they are free. In fact, they are students who have just received their results and are about to enter university.
“So this comes as a great relief to them and their parents, so that they’ll be able to go back to school,” Mr Sewornu said.
