A man claiming to be the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Delta Force vigilante group, Francis Asante, has been arrested and is currently in custody.
According to deep-throat sources within the national security apparatus, Asante—popularly known as Swanzy and also referred to as Nana Kwasi among his close associates—was arrested at a hideout in Barekese, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region on the evening of Friday, July 18, 2025.
His arrest is in connection with a viral video in which he allegedly issued threats ahead of the upcoming Akwatia Parliamentary By-election. In the video, Swanzy, clad in military camouflage, vowed that he and his associates would “strike,” warning that at least one prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be killed during the polls.
He claimed the threats were in retaliation for what he described as the party’s abandonment of Delta Force members after they were used to help secure victory in the 2016 elections.
Security officials have described the arrest as a preventive measure to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the by-election.
As of 10:00 p.m. on Friday, arrangements were underway to transfer Swanzy to Accra for court processing.
