The Parent-Teacher Association of Sekondi College (SEKCO) has announced plans to petition the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to allow 154 candidates another opportunity to sit their Chemistry Theory and Objective paper after they were turned away from the examination hall on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

The students were denied entry after arriving late, following heavy rainfall in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis that morning.

PTA Chairperson Mercy Dadzie told Citi News that some of the affected candidates, including her own ward, arrived just minutes after the paper had started but were refused entry by an external invigilator.

She said parents would also seek the intervention of the Western Regional Minister to help resolve the matter, and appealed directly to WAEC to consider the students’ futures.

“There is a law governing examinations. Even if the children were late, they should have been allowed to write the paper, with the lost time deducted from their examination period. They could also have been sanctioned for the lateness. At least they would have had the opportunity to attempt the questions and earn some marks. We are pleading with WAEC to help us. This concerns the future of these children,” she said.
