The Assin Fosu Municipal office of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has officially launched a specialized training program for students and teachers participating in the national “Feed Ghana” institutional project.
The initiative brought together representatives from several local institutions, including Fosu Training College (FOSCO), Assin Fosu Methodist School, Assin Edubiase D/A Basic School, and Assin Akropong D/A Basic School.
​Advancing the “Feed Ghana” Vision
The Feed Ghana School Project is a strategic, nationwide effort designed to bolster domestic food production and curb the nation’s reliance on imported food products. By integrating agriculture into the educational experience, the government aims to encourage students and families to embrace self-sufficiency through cultivation.
​Key Objectives include:
Expansion of School-Based Farms: Establishing thousands of acres of productive farmland on school campuses.
​Focus on Essential Crops: Prioritizing the cultivation of maize, rice, and a variety of vegetables in line with national agricultural targets.
​Cultivating Future Farmers: Inculcating an interest in and love for agriculture among the younger generation.
​Building Food Security
Mr. Oware Ampomah, the Assin Fosu Municipal Director of MOFA, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the high level of engagement from the participating schools.
He noted that the project is a vital step toward ensuring food stability on campuses while simultaneously equipping students with practical agricultural skills.
​Teachers and students involved in the program have also shared their excitement, welcoming the opportunity to contribute to local food security and gain hands-on experience in modern farming practices.
