Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has been arrested in the United States and is currently in custody following action on an extradition request submitted by the Government of Ghana.

In a statement issued by Victor Emmanuel Smith, it was confirmed that Tamakloe-Attionu is being held at the Southern Desert Correctional Centre in Pahrump, Nevada.

According to the statement, she was arrested by U.S. Marshals on January 6 and has remained in detention since then. The arrest follows an extradition request Ghana submitted to U.S. authorities in July 2024.

She is currently being held pending legal proceedings in the United States, where a court will determine the next steps in the extradition process.

The development marks a significant step in the case, which has attracted public attention due to the collaboration between Ghanaian and U.S. law enforcement agencies.

Although details of the charges and the specific timeline for court hearings were not disclosed, her detention indicates that U.S. authorities have formally activated Ghana’s extradition request and that the matter has entered the judicial phase.
