Former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, has arrived in Ghana to begin serving her prison sentence after being extradited from the United States following more than two years of legal proceedings.
The development was announced by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who disclosed that Tamakloe-Attionu arrived in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
According to the statement, the High Court convicted and sentenced her in absentia in April 2024. Subsequently, in July 2024, the Government of Ghana submitted a formal extradition request to the United States seeking her return to serve the sentence imposed by the court.
After more than two years of court proceedings, U.S. authorities notified the Government of Ghana in January this year that they had approved her surrender.
Following her arrival in the country, officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service took her into custody and have begun the necessary administrative and legal processes required for her incarceration.
“Officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have taken her into custody and are making the necessary preparations for her to begin her sentence,” the statement said.
The government indicated that her return marks a significant step in enforcing the court’s judgment after an extensive extradition process involving authorities in both Ghana and the United States.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General is expected to hold bilateral discussions with officials of the United States Department of Justice on outstanding extradition requests between the two countries, as Ghana seeks to strengthen cooperation on cross-border criminal matters.
