Residents of Manso Nkran in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region have expressed growing frustration over the poor state of roads leading to the mining community.

The roads are riddled with potholes and mud, making movement difficult for commuters and drivers who use the stretch daily.

Residents say limited investment in infrastructure development persists despite years of mining activity in the area and several appeals to government for intervention.

Commuting on the roads has become a difficult experience for motorists, who describe the journey as frustrating and costly. Drivers say they are forced to frequently repair their vehicles due to the bad road conditions.

The Queen Mother of Manso Nkran, Obaapanin Akosua Sarpomaa, said the situation is particularly affecting pregnant women who struggle to access healthcare during emergencies.

“The poor road network is causing serious hardship for our people, especially pregnant women who struggle to access healthcare facilities during emergencies. We are appealing to the authorities to come to our aid because the situation is becoming unbearable,” she said.

Drivers also lamented the financial burden the roads have placed on them, noting that frequent vehicle breakdowns have forced them to increase transport fares.

“As drivers, we spend a lot on repairs due to the bad roads. This has led to increased transport fares, making life difficult for residents who depend on daily commuting,” one driver said.

Assembly Member for Manso Nkran Electoral Area, Joseph Antwi Prempeh, disclosed that discussions have already been held with officials of Asanko Gold Mines and government representatives regarding the rehabilitation of deplorable roads within the electoral area and adjoining communities.

According to him, many concerns raised during previous meetings have not been addressed, prompting renewed calls for immediate intervention.

Mr. Antwi Prempeh further highlighted challenges facing the community, including the lack of adequate healthcare facilities and what he described as the neglect of communities.
