The Central Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for an Assembly Member who is alleged to have organized the youth of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region to lynch a military captain who was the leader of a military detachment dispatched to the community.

TheAssemblymann of the area whose name is unknown is reported to have instigated both the lynching and rioting and gone into hiding.

The Assemblyman pounced on him with crude weapons including cement blocks and clubs.

Captain Maxwell Mahama who is commander of a military detachment in the area according to his subordinates, on Monday morning was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, they saw the pistol on him.

According to them, he was not dressed in military uniform and because of recent spate of armed robbery in the town after residents were attacked a day earlier, the women called the Assemblyman who organized the youth of the town to lynch him.

But Spokesperson for the Central Regional Police Command, ASP Irene Oppong commenting on the issue on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Tuesday appealed to the public to volunteer information to help track down the assemblyman.

She said the Police will leave no stone unturned in efforts to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We are hunting for that Assemblyman who instigated the act and that’s why we appeal to residents not keep mute over the issue but make sure that perpetrators are brought to book

“We want to let those suspects know that they can run but can never hide” she warned.
