The Ashanti regional secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Sam Pyne says the police are not magicians but rely on intelligence reports to succeed.

The comment follows the brouhaha surrounding the discovery of human remains by the police in Takoradi as the search for the three Takoradi kidnapped girls continues.

According to Mr Pyne, the police can work effectively if the citizens help by being their eyes and ears.

“There are records of people who have been lost for 35 years, 15 years and some we don’t know if they are alive or not. The police rely on us unless there is technological advantage such as CCTV cameras and secret cameras,” he said on Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.com.

He said some politicians should stop talking about the issue of the kidnapped girls as if the government doesn’t care.

“The president said everything will be done to save the children but didn’t say their location was known. I believe that the suspect has been perpetrating these crimes for a long time so the bones found could possibly not be those of the kidnapped girls,” he added.

The Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Chief Hamilton Nixon Biney, on his part said it was difficult to trust a police force that contradicts itself always, especially on the case of the kidnapped girls.

“There is too much politics in the police force and that is why things have become complicated,” he said.
