The Plastic Sellers Association at the Odawna Rubber Market has given the Ghana National Fire Service a three-day ultimatum to submit its investigation report on the recent fire outbreak that devastated the market.
Vice Chairman of the Association, Ohene Nketiah, said the traders are eager to resume business but are willing to allow the Fire Service a short period to complete its investigations.
Mr Nketiah made the call in an interview with Adom News.
“We are ready to resume business, but we will give the Fire Service some time to investigate and submit a report on what caused the fire,” he said.
He added that members had already begun clearing debris and preparing to reconstruct their containers when the Fire Service asked them to halt the process until the report is ready.
“Members came to the market to clear the debris and begin reconstructing their containers, but the Fire Service told them to wait until they finish writing their report. That is why they are waiting for them to do this within three days,” he explained.
The association is therefore giving the GNFS three days to finalise and submit its findings.
The fire at the popular Odawna Rubber Market caused significant damage to several stalls and goods, leaving many traders counting heavy losses. The incident has disrupted business activities in the area for days.
Traders remain hopeful that once the report is submitted, they will be allowed to resume operations as soon as possible.
