Torrential rains that lasted barely an hour have submerged homes and displaced many in Koforidua in the Eastern region.

Properties worth thousands of cedis have been lost in the downpour that swept through the town Thursday.

Adom FM’s Eastern Regional correspondent, Maxwell Kudekor on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem Friday said the worst-hit areas were Abrewa Nkwanta, Nsukwa, Koforidua Zongo, Effiduase and Abrewa Nkwanta.

He said school children were either lifted or made to board big vehicles before they could go to their destinations.

Maxwell who is himself a victim of the flooding said residents are now salvaging their household appliances and other properties.

He noted that some drivers who are unable to drive through the flood turned to use alternative routes.

Maxwell Kudekor said the floods have also taken over the main streets, causing heavy traffic.

He blamed the flooding on chocked gutters which have block waterways in the area.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) is conducting a disaster impact assessment of the flood which has displaced many.

Eastern Regional NADMO Coordinator, Kwame Appiah Kodua said they will be collaborating with the police and fire service to embark on the assessment exercise.
