ThE demonstration is the second in 6 weeks to the theme “SAVE VOLTA NOW” which is intended to register the group’s displeasure against the government on the intended division of the Volta region.

With thousands of youths and residents of South Tongu Districts and other parts of the southern Volta Region, their aim is to make sure that government listens to them and brings development to the region instead of dividing it.

According to the leader of the group, Simon Kofi Ohene, they are advising the government to rather bring development to the region instead of splitting it.
“We want the government to develop the region and not to divide it”, he said.
Some of the inscriptions on placards read “what division can do, secession can do better, we need development not division”, among others.

Clad in red and warriors attire, the demonstrators marched on the principal streets of Sokpe, Tefle, Vume, and Sogakope to present copies of the petition to the chiefs of Tongu and the District Chief Executive of South Tongu District.
In an interview with the leaders of the group, the demonstrators said they would continue in the Ketu South, Keta and Northern part of the region in the coming weeks until government sees reason with them not to divide the region but rather bring development to the region.
