Authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have today commenced intake of female students in all three single-sex halls in the university.

The main accommodation facility at Katanga has been allocated to female students whiles the annex will take women.

One of the two twin towers in both Unity and Africa Halls will be allocated to opposite sexes.

University Relations Officer, Kwame Yeboah Junior told Nhyira News security measures have been put in place to ensure safety of females, especially in Unity and Katanga halls.

Meanwhile, a High Court in Kumasi has rejected two motions for interlocutory injunction to restrain authorities of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology from going ahead to convert single-sex halls of residence mixed facilities.

The actions, separately filed by alumni of male halls, Katanga and Unity, whose lawyers are already serving notice they will head for the Supreme Court over the matter.

Counsel for Katanga Hall, Steven Asante Berkoe, says the decision of the university against the Constitution of Ghana.

There is heavy Police and Military presence at Conti and Katanga Hall.
