Veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has revealed plans to visit the grave of Ghana’s late former President Jerry John Rawlings to honour his memory during his ongoing stay in Ghana.
The actor, who described the late president as a brother, said he was deeply affected when he learnt of Rawlings’ death, particularly because the two had maintained a cordial relationship.
Speaking in an interview shared on Facebook on September 29, 2026, Mr Edochie recalled that during his last visit to Ghana, he met Rawlings and had lengthy discussions with him.
He said the former president had promised to visit him in Nigeria, but that plan never materialised before his death.
Mr Edochie said their striking physical resemblance often caught people’s attention, with some Nigerians who saw their photographs describing them as brothers.
He also noted that they were born in the same year, a coincidence that strengthened his sense of connection with the late Ghanaian leader.
Recounting how he received the news of Rawlings’ death, the actor said he initially dismissed the information when he was told the former president had died after news of his mother’s passing.
“When I heard that the mother had died, I phoned Ghana, and the person I got was telling me that Rawlings had died. I said, you are mad. His mother is the person who died, not him,” he recalled.
He said he later contacted another person and confirmed the news, adding that he felt he had lost a brother.
“I would like to go to his grave. I want to pay some respect to him when I go to his grave,” he said.
Mr Edochie also disclosed plans to visit Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Armah, whom he said had been ill for a long time.
He further expressed a desire to see actress Moesha Boduong, who played his wife in a Ghanaian film production.
The veteran actor described Ghana as a second home, citing his longstanding relationships and work in the country.
“I want to also go and see him, and also Moesha Boduong; she played my wife in a production in Ghana here. Ghana is a second home for me,” he added.
