Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for New Juaben North in the Eastern Region, Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang, has chided the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) over the withdrawal of $190m due to the Power Distribution Services’ (PDS) contract termination.

The MCC, following government’s decision to terminate the deal, said $190 million granted to Ghana at the March 1, 2019 transfer was no longer available.

In reaction, Mr Boateng said the statement from MCC suggests a blackmail which government must not succumb to.

“We are concerned about our relationships with the United States but relationships break so they can keep their money because we can survive without it. They don’t have the interest of PDS in which we have 51% share more than Ghanaians do.”

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam, Mr Boateng urged President Nana Akufo-Addo to be firm on his decision.

The Compact comprised two tranches of funding; the first being $308 million in which payment was made available upon the official start of the current Compact, and the second tranche of $190 million, which was contingent on a successful concession agreement.
