Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Awentami Paul Afoko has pledged his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

In a statement following the party’s national executive elections, Mr Afoko said he would continue working behind the scenes to support the NPP’s presidential candidate in the party’s bid for the 2028 election.

He urged party members to remain united and support the newly elected national executives to help advance the party’s efforts towards the 2028 polls.

Mr Afoko, who contested the national chairmanship position, acknowledged that he was unable to secure the victory his supporters had hoped for.

He, however, said the outcome was not due to a lack of effort, explaining that his campaign was built around the message of the 3Rs, Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture Power, but delegates ultimately chose a different direction.

Despite the outcome, Mr Afoko said he remained hopeful that the vision adopted by the new executives would help the party achieve its political objectives in 2028.

He expressed appreciation to his campaign team for their commitment and sacrifices throughout the campaign, as well as his supporters for believing in his message.

Mr Afoko said he would soon meet his campaign team for a debriefing and subsequently visit supporters to personally thank them for their backing.

He also congratulated all the contestants, particularly those who emerged victorious, and commended the Electoral Commission and the NPP’s national election committee for what he described as a smooth and uneventful election.
