The Battor Traditional Council has commended the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for what it describes as his significant contribution to the development of the area.
The traditional authorities praised the MP for what they said was his personal commitment to the welfare and development of his constituents, particularly in education.
Speaking at a ceremony in Battor where Mr Ablakwa supported more than 2,000 fresh Senior High School (SHS) students, Paramount Chief of Bator and President of Battor Traditional Council, Torbega Patamia Dzekley VII, said the MP’s contribution to education in the area was unmatched.
He noted that Mr Ablakwa had, over the years, instituted scholarship schemes that had supported hundreds of students from the basic level through to graduate programmes.
“Our MP has done a yeoman’s job in supporting us, the traditional leaders, in taking care of our children and grandchildren. The MP has been selfless in discharging his duty to us,” he said.
Torbega Patamia Dzekley VII also praised Mr Ablakwa for raising the profile of North Tongu through his performance at the national and international levels, saying his achievements had made the traditional leaders and residents proud.
“Our son has helped in all sectors social interventions, education, housing for the Akosombo Dam spillage victims, health and others,” he said.
He urged young people in the area to consider the MP a role model and draw inspiration from his achievements.
The traditional council noted that 2026 marks the fourth year of Mr Ablakwa’s annual support programme for fresh SHS students, which has so far benefited more than 8,000 students.
His scholarship scheme, it added, currently supports more than 500 students at various levels of education.
Additionally, Mr Ablakwa has presented a pickup vehicle to the North Tongu Educational Directorate and donated laptops to tertiary students and staff of various institutions in the area.
In the area of infrastructure, the MP has also supported the construction of several classroom blocks across the district to improve access to education.
The educational authorities also commended Mr Ablakwa for his interventions and appealed to him to extend his support to education beyond North Tongu.
