The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has supported 2,269 fresh Senior High School (SHS) students in the constituency with essential school supplies.

The items, distributed at the Mepe School Park, included mattresses, chop boxes, sanitary pads, toiletries and exercise books.

The annual initiative, according to Mr Ablakwa, forms part of a broader strategy to support education in the constituency and ease the financial burden on parents.

He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity, study hard and strive for academic excellence to make themselves, their parents and the constituency proud.

Mr Ablakwa cited Kekeli, a student from North Tongu who was among the finalists in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition, as an example of what students from the constituency can achieve.

In addition to the items given to boarding students, the MP presented more than 100 bicycles to day students who had been placed in various second-cycle institutions across the constituency.

He also awarded the North Tongu District soccer team GH¢2,000 for its performance, while each member of the athletics team who won a gold medal received GH¢1,500.

Some outstanding students were also presented with cash prizes in recognition of their academic achievements.

Mr Ablakwa thanked teachers for their contribution to education in the constituency and encouraged them to continue playing their role in shaping the future of the students.

The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Victoria Doe, also urged the education directorate to work hard to build on the foundation laid and further improve educational outcomes in the constituency.
