Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated government’s commitment to fulfilling the ‘One Village One Dam’ campaign promise it made to the people of Ghana.

The ‘One Village One Dam’ is a campaign promise that is aimed at facilitating all-year-round farming in the Northern parts of Ghana.

In an apparent response to his political opponents in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Vice President said: “Our dams are not like Guinea Fowls that will fly to Burkina Faso. The dams are going to be here in Ghana. Even if a few are not well done, we will make sure they are properly done. They will not fly to Burkina Faso.”

The Vice President was speaking at the 20th Anniversary launch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) in Accra on Monday.

The NDC has mocked the construction of the dams, saying they were dugouts rather than dams.

The Veep also noted that the constructions of the dams were underway, promising that any faulty dam will be reconstructed to meet the demands of farming communities.

“We have ‘One Village One Dam’ that is on-going; very important dams that are being built. But they [NDC] go and take pictures of uncompleted dams and then say ‘this is what the NPP is doing’ but we are going to complete all of these dams.”
