Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has confirmed the arrest of one more suspect in connection with the deadly violence in New Winneba.

Mr Obeng, who disclosed that he assisted the police-led operation, alleged that the suspect killed a man identified as Abeiku during the recent violence between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba in the Central Region.

A-Plus made the disclosure during a joint Facebook Live address with Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin on Thursday.

“You see, we have caught you. Tell the boys down there that in Accra I am the mafia boss. I told you that I would catch you. You see where you ran from? You killed Abeiku and came here? You see, I came to catch you,” he said.

He also issued a warning to other young people believed to have been involved in the clashes.

“Accra, we are the caretakers. This should be a lesson to all the boys,” he said.

The arrest follows reports that some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom entered New Winneba on Tuesday, September 1, and allegedly attempted to lock up some shops.

The move reportedly triggered resistance from residents of New Winneba, leading to a confrontation that escalated into gunfire.

Three people were killed while 17 others sustained injuries during the violence.

The latest arrest brings the number of suspects apprehended in connection with the incident to eight.
