One person has been killed and three others injured following a suspected armed robbery attack at Fiapre Zongo in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., causing panic among residents and prompting a swift response from the police.
Information gathered by Adom News indicates that the mobile money (MoMo) vendor targeted in the attack survived the incident.
She sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.
The deceased, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed, is believed to have lived a few houses away from the scene.
Preliminary reports suggest that he stepped outside after hearing gunshots to find out what was happening, but reportedly encountered the suspected robbers and was shot in the head. He later died from his injuries.
Three other people, including the MoMo vendor, sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and are receiving medical attention. Their conditions remain unknown.
One of the suspected robbers was arrested while attempting to escape from the scene. Eyewitnesses said the suspect was injured after being impaled by an iron rod while trying to climb through an uncompleted building.
The injured suspect was arrested by officers from the Sunyani West Police Command and taken to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment under police guard.
Police have visited the crime scene and commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and apprehend other suspects believed to have fled.
The Ghana Police Service has appealed to residents to provide credible information that could assist investigations and help in the arrest of the remaining suspects.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of mobile money operators and residents in the municipality, with calls for increased security patrols in communities.
