Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have been handed a challenging draw in the preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League after being paired with DR Congo giants TP Mazembe.
The draw, conducted at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo on Thursday, sets up a mouth-watering contest between two of the continent’s established clubs.
Medeama will host the first leg at the TNA Stadium before travelling to Kinshasa for the return fixture, where the tie will be decided.
The winner of the two-legged encounter will progress to the next stage of the competition, where they will face either Tunisian side Club Africain or Malian champions Djoliba AC for a place in the group stage.
CAF has scheduled the first-leg matches of the preliminary round to take place between September 4 and 6, with the return legs set for September 11 to 13.
The second preliminary round will then be played from September 14 to 16, while the return fixtures are scheduled for September 23 to 25 as clubs continue their quest to reach the lucrative group phase of Africa’s premier club competition.
Medeama will be aiming to make a strong impression on their return to the CAF Champions League after reclaiming the Ghana Premier League title and earning the country’s sole qualification spot in the competition.
