New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Vice Chairman Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has questioned the basis on which Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa challenged his eligibility to hold a service passport.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Boakye said he had held a service passport since his tenure as Deputy Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), adding that he had also served as chairman of the Buffer Stock Company.

He questioned why the Foreign Affairs Minister would suggest that he did not qualify for the travel document, given his previous public service roles.

“I have had a service passport since I was a Deputy National Service Authority boss. I also served as Buffer Stock Board chairman, so on what basis is Ablakwa saying I didn’t qualify?” he asked.

Nana B also challenged the suggestion that a Member of Parliament could exert undue pressure on a minister, questioning how such influence could have been brought to bear in his case.

He further questioned what authority he would have, as an opposition party official who had lost an election, to demand that he be allowed to retain a service passport.

“How is that possible? After losing an election, what locus do I have as an opposition national organiser to ask that I hold on to my service passport?” he queried.

The NPP vice chairman also criticised the Majority Caucus in Parliament for displaying the biographical data page of his service passport, which he said was in the custody of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
