The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has backed calls by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference for a review of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The call comes amid concerns that about 55,000 BECE candidates could be affected by challenges with the placement system and may miss out on placement into Senior High Schools (SHSs).
Speaking at a ceremony to distribute educational materials to newly admitted SHS students in his constituency, Mr. Acquah said the situation needed urgent attention to ensure that no candidate was disadvantaged.
He called on stakeholders to work together to address the challenges and find lasting solutions to the school placement process.
Meanwhile, the District Director of Education for Birim Central Municipality, Gloria Aggrey Kilson, thanked the Akyem Oda Legislator for the kind gesture.
She also appealed to parents and guardians to invest in the education of their children and wards to secure a better future for them.
Madam Kilson urged parents not to neglect their children, especially those in SHS. She encouraged them to visit their children at school regularly and provide the necessary support for their education.
On his part, the overall best 2026 BECE candidate in the Birim Central Municipality, Benjamin Edmund Sakyi Koranteng, who attended Oda Old Road Experimental JHS and obtained an aggregate 7, said his success was due to determination and hard work.
Speaking to the media, he encouraged pupils to remain determined, study hard, and take their education seriously.
