Management of Obaatanpa Radio has condemned what it describes as an attack on its premises by the Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Seth Serwonoo Banini, the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Richard Kofi Asiedu, and some other individuals.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the station said the incident followed discussions on its morning show concerning internal matters of the NDC.

According to the statement, the group stormed the station’s premises and allegedly assaulted the morning show host and producer, both verbally and physically.

Management further alleged that the individuals entered the studio during a live broadcast, switched off transmission, ordered workers to leave the premises, and subsequently locked up the facility.

Obaatanpa Radio said the incident disrupted its operations and raised serious concerns about the safety of media practitioners.

“Management strongly condemns this attack on our staff and the disruption of our operations. Such actions threaten press freedom and the safety of media practitioners,” the statement said.

The station disclosed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the Central East Regional Police Command for investigation.

Management commended the police for their swift intervention and professionalism in responding to the incident.

The station also called on the relevant authorities to ensure that all persons involved are brought to book.

According to the statement, CCTV footage of the incident will be released in due course to support ongoing investigations.

Obaatanpa Radio reiterated its commitment to professional, fair, and responsible broadcasting despite the incident.
