Supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have gathered at the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra to demand the immediate release of Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the party’s communications team and spokesperson for former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The supporters converged at the EOCO office on Monday, July 13, following reports that Mr Aboagye was arrested on Saturday at the Kotoka International Airport by officers of EOCO with the assistance of personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service.

The NPP has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the arrest, claiming that authorities have not disclosed the reasons for his detention.

The party has also alleged that Mr Aboagye has been denied access to his lawyers since his arrest, an allegation that has not been publicly addressed by EOCO or the Ghana Immigration Service.

The development has heightened tensions between the opposition party and state investigative agencies, with NPP supporters calling for transparency and respect for Mr Aboagye’s legal rights.

The matter was first made public by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 12, alleged that Mr Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officers with support from immigration officials.

Mr Kodua called for the immediate release of the former government official, while other senior party members have since joined calls for EOCO to explain the basis of the arrest.

The protestors are demanding clarity on the circumstances surrounding Mr Aboagye’s detention and urging authorities to ensure that due process is followed.
