Presidential staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah has reacted to the detention of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, stressing the need for discipline and decorum in public discourse.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) said she does not support the use of insults in political communication, regardless of who is involved.
“Anybody at all wants to insult President Mahama. I don’t like insults, no matter who you are,” she said. “When we were little, my father taught us not to insult, and there are some words we simply do not use. Even now, I avoid certain words.”
She added that political leaders should focus on constructive criticism rather than personal attacks.
“You can criticize a person, but raw insults are bad,” she stated.
Nana Yaa Jantuah further described the situation as a matter of discipline rather than politics, arguing that every political party has internal mechanisms to deal with misconduct.
“This is not political. It is about indiscipline, and the party must discipline him,” she said. “Every party has a disciplinary committee, so I am surprised the NPP appears not to be using its disciplinary structures.”
She referenced previous disciplinary actions within the party, adding:
“When it came to Adjoa Safo, you said you were dragging her to the disciplinary committee. When it comes to someone else, you think he was not treated well.”
According to her, political parties must ensure consistency in enforcing rules to maintain credibility and order.
“The party should have summoned him long ago. There should be decorum in public discourse,” she said.
Nana Yaa Jantuah expressed surprise that the issue was being politicised, insisting it should be treated as a matter of conduct.
“I am shocked they are making politics out of it,” she said.
She compared the situation to poor upbringing and discipline, adding:
“It is like a child who was not properly raised and goes out insulting people regardless of status. That is what Abronye did, and he is facing the consequences of his actions.”
Her comments come in the wake of Abronye’s arrest and detention, which has generated public and political debate across the country.
