New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in the Dormaa Constituency of the Bono Region are up in arms against their Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC.
Abronye who is the chairman of his party in the region has been accused by the youth of allegedly attempting to oust the sitting Dormaa West MP, Ali Maiga Halidu and replace him with one Ransford Amponsah.
The youth also accuse Abronye of a personal agenda, warning it could cost the party if care wasn’t taken.
The youth argue that the Dormaa West seat had always remained in the hands of NDC until 2016 when the sitting NPP MP won it for the party.
The youth, therefore, do not understand why Abronye DC, as regional chairman, is supporting another candidate against the MP.
The angry youth say the actions of Abronye DC would work against the party and are, therefore calling on the NPP’s national executives to call him to order or they take matters into their own hands.

But Abronye DC in an interview on Adom FM’s Midday News has denied supporting Ransford Amponsah.
Even though he has admitted that Ransford Amponsah was a member of the NPP, the allegations by the youth, he said are false and should be disregarded.
“I have no idea what the youth are alleging. Yes, Ransford is an NPP member but I am not supporting him in anyway. If he is the one going round with my name then he should be dealt with because I have no idea [of his actions],” he said.

Dorma Constituency
The NPP has never won the Dormaa West seat even when it was part of Dormaa Central Constituency.

In 2012, Mr Ali Maiga contested the parliamentary seat and lost to his NDC opponent by 1,834 votes.
In 2016 he contested again and won by 291 votes
Then candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, however, lost to former president John Dramani Mahama in the presidential though appreciating in votes compared to previous polls.
There are high hopes among the NDC they will reclaim the seat if the internal wrangling within the NPP persists.
