Six people have been confirmed dead with several others seriously injured in a fatal accident which occurred Sunday evening on the Tema Motorway.

The Sprinter with registration number GT 4693-16, conveying passengers from Accra to Tema geared off the road after colliding with salon car and subsequently somersaulting into a nearby bush.

The accident is reported to have occurred around 10:45pm.

According to Boateng, a survivor of the fatal crash, driver of the Sprinter vehicle lost control of the vehicle when one of its back tyres suddenly burst.

“The car’s back tyre suddenly burst and in controlling the car, the driver run into the rear of a private car that was in front of it causing the sprinter car to gear off the road and somersaulted three times into the bush. I was in fear for my life,” he said. 

Another eye-witness who happens to be a Police officer, gave a similar account of the accident.  

Finding his voice after the crash, owner of the Ford Salon car who was coming from Accra explained that, his car was bumped into by the Sprinter causing him to lose control of his car. 

“I am very fortunate; had it not been my airbag I would have been seriously injured or worse died. My car is beyond repairs,” he lamented.

Bodies have been deposited at the Tema General Hospital, with the injured receiving treatment.
