General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has expressed disappointment in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) refusal to append its signature to the final roadmap and code of conduct document on the eradication of political vigilantism in the country.
Mr Boadu, in an interview with Joy News said, the opposition’s decision was unfortunate.
“I’m disappointed in the NDC for opting not to append their signature to the roadmap provided by the peace council, that is very unfortunate but we (NPP) are committed to this process and will append our signature. We (NPP) will not take the peace we are enjoying for granted,” he said.
The NDC refused to sign the final roadmap and code of conduct document put together by the National Peace Council on the eradication of political party vigilantism in the country.
Mounting a defence for the party’s decision, a leading member of the NDC, Alex Segbefia, said not only is the ceremony to sign the document premature, but that the absence of other stakeholders to append their signatures to the document is also worrying.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) together with the National Peace Council agreed to draw a road map for the disbandment of political vigilantism following the violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election in 2019.
The 31-page road map has what the parties need to do in the short, medium and long term to eradicate political vigilantism from Ghana’s political dispensation.
