Delegates from the Agona West Constituency have been cleared to participate in the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Central Regional executive elections following a decision by the party’s national executives to extend the mandate of the constituency’s current executives.
However, delegates from the Ajumako Enyan Essiam and Mfantseman constituencies have been barred from participating in the elections.
Speaking to Adom News, Deputy General Secretary and Chairperson of the Central Regional Elections Committee, Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, explained that although a legal dispute that had restrained Mfantseman from participating had been resolved, other internal party issues were yet to be addressed.
She said the decision was therefore necessary to allow the party to resolve the outstanding matters before the affected constituencies could participate in the regional elections.
Voting is currently underway, with a total of 430 delegates expected to cast their ballots.
Ms Tsiboe-Darko urged delegates and aspirants to remain calm and peaceful throughout the exercise.
She assured all participants that the elections committee would ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
