The official launch of NkrumahFest 2026 has taken place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra to mark the beginning of activities commemorating the 117th birth anniversary of Ghana’s founding President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Held on Friday, July 31, 2026, under the theme “Freedom and Justice,” the launch signalled the start of the “Journey to Nkroful”, a nationwide commemoration celebrating the life, vision and enduring legacy of the man widely regarded as the founder of modern Ghana.

The event brought together government officials, traditional leaders, Pan-Africanists, students and admirers of Dr. Nkrumah to reflect on his contributions to Ghana’s independence, nation-building and the African liberation movement.
Organisers said this year’s celebration seeks to inspire a renewed commitment to the ideals of freedom, justice, national unity and Pan-Africanism, values that defined Dr. Nkrumah’s leadership.
As part of the commemorative activities, participants will embark on the symbolic Journey to Nkroful, Dr. Nkrumah’s birthplace in the Western Region, where further events will honour his enduring legacy and vision for Ghana and the African continent.
The countdown to NkrumahFest 2026 has officially begun.
