The Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a vitriolic attack on Deputy Finance Minister, George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan for declaring his presidential ambition.
Anthony Nukpenu maintained that, a man whom under his supervision as the Central Regional Minister reduced NDC’s Parliamentary seats from 19 to four, cannot nurture an ambition to lead the NDC in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Ricketts-Hagan in a three-page letter to Parliament said the party needs “fresh legs” following his former boss’ abysmal performance in the 2016 elections where he polled the lowest percentage of votes ever for a sitting president.
The Cape Coast South MP, Ricketts-Hagan who was also Deputy Trades Minister and later became Central Regional Minister said, Mahama is best placed to become a statesman as former Presidents, Kufuor and Rawlings.

But Anthony Nukpenu on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday said the former Mahama appointee does not have a constituency in the NDC to even retain his Parliament seat in the 2020.
“Which party are you going to be a presidential candidate? Mahama is even more popular than you at your backyard. If election is held today, you [Ricketts-Hagan] will lose” he stated.
The NDC man bemoaned how some people in the party are nursing presidential ambitions when the NDC is undergoing re-structuring.
“They should go to their constituency and assess themselves; being a president is not about the academic credential. What is the rush for?” He quizzed.
The Greater Accra NDC Organizer said even former President John Mahama who is the most marketable candidate is not rushing to declare his intention to lead the NDC in 2020.
“Those who think they need to chase him [Mahama] should watch themselves well. Mahama is not in competition with everyone so those struggling to be recognized in the party should take their time” Nukpenu stressed.
